Hi
New to this site! Found out on Friday that we are pregnant - after trying for 2 and a half years! Reckon we are 6 weeks so its very early days. Not got my appointment with midwife till 19th April - seems like an eternity. We were beginning to give up hope of it happening and low and behold just as I get promotion at work - when my mind was totally on something else - I fall pregnant! Absolutely delighted as you can imagine! I am finding it difficult to sleep though what with needing the loo and worrying about my age and things that can go wrong! I am 38 and this is our first preganancy! I was hoping to meet some buddies on this site who are the same age and experiencing the same worries! I am also getting period like pains - anyone else? It would be nice to talk to someone else going through it as we not telling anyone yet!

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I managed to get pregnant just after a promotion too. I am 6w+6 today and have my scan tomorrow.

I am 26, so can't help with the age, however, the nerves seem to be the same (with some variation) for all of us.
The period like pains are probably your uterus stretching. At 5 weeks mine was twice its normal size!

If you are worried about pains, etc, ask for an early scan to reassure you.

Good luck with your pregnancy x

Congratulations! That's fantastic news. You must be so excited.

Do try not to worry about the age thing. You are a spring chicken! I got pregnant last year (am now 32 wks) when I was about to turn 41. It was totally unexpected, in fact we weren't even trying and hadn't planned on having children... but now we've got our heads round it, we're over the moon.

One of my first thoughts, when I found out I was pregnant, at 9 weeks, was 'oh my God, at my age! I'll never cope. It'll never happen, something is bound to go wrong. And what will people say?!' Needless to say GP, midwife etc hardly batted an eyelid and so far (fingers crossed) everything has gone smoothly. I'm now proudly sporting a big old bump that kicks away like a footballer (a pink one, mind) and very much looking forward to starting maternity leave in just over 3 weeks. Most serious side effects for me (so far) have been a bit of back ache, the usual tiredness and puffy hands and feet.

By the way, I had plenty of the pains your'e talking about in the first trimester, cramps, a bit of spotting too, but nothing to worry about. Just do what your body tells you - have a lie down and a hot water bottle helps loads.

Enjoy your pregnancy!

Congratulations!! Don't worry about your age at all. I am 32 and pregnant, so not your age, BUT I have an aunty who has accidentally become pregnant at 45 and she is coping very well with it. Now she is her age is is relaxed and happy at being pregnant.
ENJOY every min and try not to worry about anything.
I am 11 weeks and had horrible cramping and bloating from week five to week ten (still get it on and off), so don't worry.
Well done you. xx

Thanks for the replies. Not had as many craps today so beginning to relax in the hope it is just "growing pains"! Feel like I have an obsession now though - just call me the knicker checker!! LOL! Good luck to you all! x
