Worried about docs letter hi

hi all
I got a letter from docs surgery yday asking me to make a non urgent appointment with doc to review my recent blood test ( for slapped cheek syndrome) or make an appt with nurse for blood test in four weeks.

Am worried sick:-(
Has anyone had this sort of follow up from any bloods? It could be my booking bloods but in guessing it's the slapped cheek test.

I suppose the non urgency of the appt being needed should help me relax a bit :s

I called docs straight away and have to call back to speak to a nurse at lunch today but am calling the surgery as soon as it opens to try to see my doc as he is really good and will explain everything better than some nurse I don't know on the end of the phone...

Any insight into why I need repeat blood test in four weeks ( when I'll be 18 wks) would be really helpful. I am trying to remain calm and away from google!!

X

Hi I had the same letter too.

Rang and receptionist reassured me if was probably that they wanted to do another full blood count as borderline anaemic.

Worried me at first too. Let me know how you get on today

CrazyAlien06 · 05/04/2011 07:30

Hi onadietcokebreak
That's what my mum thinks it is as she was anaemic through all three of her pregnancies. My receptionist just said she I not medically trained and I have to call the practice nurse at 12 today... Hmmmm nope I shall harass the surgery until I get to see or speak to someone this morning :-)
I may even take a stroll down to the surgery instead of calling may help my case if they see how worried I am.

Have also text mw to see if she can shed any light but she is totally useless! I will never rely on her for any advice or anything! When people say check with your mw I think chance would be a fine thing as I can never get hold of mine!
Luckily I have the morning at home planning today (PPA for being a teacher) so can be in contact with the docs.
I just hope someone sheds some light onto this letter. I guess they test for lots of different things Inc anaemia when doing a test for something else?

Prob borderline result, if it had been something important a Dr would have called you.

If my MW is unavailable her mobile forwards to another MW - doesn't yours? Worth checking!

CrazyAlien06 · 05/04/2011 07:48

Nope - I tried calling her a few wks ago regarding a chicken pox outbreak at my school and she cut me off and I heard nothing since.
I text her just now about the letter and shockingly she text back to say that she is going to look into it( today is her one day of work!) then she will get back to me later. But I'm going to still wander to surgery to try to get an appt as want to see doc about something else anyway.

This pregnancy malarkey is stressful! Wish I could just relax and enjoy it.

Good luck Crazy! Keeping my fingers crossed

While your there, ask what you are supposed to do when you go into labour - who you should call if you need to speak to someone when your MW is unavailable!

nunnie · 05/04/2011 09:40

Good luck.

I my area with my other two I was given a mobile number which gave the number of the community midwives if switched off and then no one answered that, as they were all in the community and on that answer machine I was given another number to ring for emergencies which went through to delivery. No good for me as I am based in a different hospital than my community midwife.
I have always rung the delivery suite when in labour though, never even crossed ym mind to ring anyone else.

CrazyAlien06 · 05/04/2011 09:45

yeah good idea! I am planning on just ringing the hospital and until then arranging my own medical support i.e calling docs etc as mw isn't reliable!

I would have thought that mw would have contacted me about the blood test results, i did text her this morning and shockingly got a response and she said she would check and let me know later....... I know that she gets in the surgery at 830 and know she is busy but a little call would have helped.
Oh well , I feel better seeing my doc anyway. He knows that I worry about everything inc ttc and now being preggers so he can tell me simply what is the concern and how to deal with it.

So nervous heading off there now , so will let you know whats wrong when im back xx

Hi CrazyAlien Hope all is OK. I had a similar thing with my first bloodtests and didn't get the message till late evening, which meant I didn't sleep all night!

I hate that they can tell you something with no detail whatsover and say... "oh it's nothing to worry about... but!"

Of course we're going to worry! We're crazy pregnant ladies!!!

Anyway, fortunately, my midwives appear very helpful and when DH rang them they were able to explain the problem, which is all to do with my having high potassium levels in my blodd. Actually trying to get a second blood test today at docs, but one doc off sick and no appointments this morning. Have to try again this afternoon, but I also have my first scan this afternoon (eeek!), so gonna struggle to fit it in.

It's tough trying to get away from work for all these appointments, when no one knows you're pg!

Good luck with second test! Let us know how it goes.

CrazyAlien06 · 05/04/2011 10:52

hi all,
back from docs ( was the emptiest I have ever seen a waiting room!)
my slapped cheek blood test results came back negative - I have no immunity to it and also didnt have the virus. I need to have repeat bloods next week to check that I still dont have the virus. Hopefully all will be ok then!
such a stressful time, Ill be glad when I finish my job as can be away from the childrens lurgies!x
