hi all,

I got a call from my midwife on Friday saying my blood test results were back and my White blood count was high and if I felt unwell to go to the doctors. I felt fine so i thought wait until the doctors is open on Monday and go down then. So I went in this morning and on the screen it said abnormally high White blood count speak to gp immediately! That totally contradicts what the midwife said! Anyway so the doctor said that she can't find anything wrong with me and has had to repeat the blood test because she wants to know if it's gone back to normal or not! Has anyone else had a high White blood count and what has it been because it's really stressing me out to the point where I have had to get an extension on my uni work because I'm so stressed!

Hi, I had this & was told it was a sign of a UTI. I've been on ABs twice for it, it's very common in pregnancy. Have you had any pain or discomfort when having a wee? My symptoms were a heavy pressured feeling over my bladder/ lower abdomen as soon as I stood up or walked around, needing a wee constantly but nothing much coming out, cloudy wee. What I didn't have was any major pain or burning sensation when I went, which threw me as that was my main symptom when I had one 16 years ago!

In m case when the lab analysed my sample more thoroughly, they couldn't create an active culture so it came back as negative, but I was told I had a "half/borderline" UTI. The gp still put me on ABs to clear it up though.

You could go back to your gp & ask for them to check a sample again. They can do a test on the spot which will show high levels of White blood cells.

Not helpful that your midwife didn't explain what it may be a sign of! Sorry you're stressed. :(

I've not got any pain or any symptoms which is why even the doctor got confused! Missed a call from her this morning so I'm waiting for her to call me back now - guess the next test results have come back! Argh!
