I'm eleven weeks today and start the morning with a relatively small bump but by lunch time I have a bump that makes me look five months pregnant and it grows bigger until I go to bed! Does anyone else have this problem?

I have put on eight pounds since the start and hope this doesn't continue at such a speed!!

At 11 weeks it's unlikely to be the baby that's causing you to swell up - more like water retention and/or gas.

Renaissance227 · 04/04/2011 15:03

I know it's not the baby (not as stupid as I look!!) It's all just bloating, probably from all the fruit I've been eating and water I've been drinking, but I just wondered if anyone else had the same problem!! Smile

Also wondered if anyone else had had rapid weight gain in the first trimester!

I know what you mean about the bloating. I've been horribly bloated since the beginning (am 29 weeks now), and my bump is still noticeably bigger by the evening. It's so uncomfortable, you have my sympathy! At least I don't have to hold it in any more, thank god. For some reason people never seemed to believe me when I told them it was bloat rather than baby (someone even told me I was 'in denial', the cheeky mare). However, now that I have a proper bump and feel like you could float across the Atlantic in me, everyone keeps telling me now 'neat' I am. Confused

Have you got some maternity trousers? They're much more comfortable than normal ones, and no-one can tell they're maternity if you wear a longer top. You might just need to wear a big hat when you go in to buy them, if you've not told anyone you're pregnant yet Grin

MrsCLH · 04/04/2011 15:18

I definitely put on at least 8 pounds in the first trimester - am 15 weeks now and have stopped weighing myself! I was very very active before I was pregnant, running about 30 miles a week on top of gym work, so I knew it was inevitable I would put on weight cos I couldn't keep up that level of exercise.

And yes, bump grows throughout the day and I look about 5 months pregnant by about 3pm, glad I'm not the only one!!

Just bought my first pair of maternity jeans as my hair bobble through the button hole technique is no longer comfortable!!

Renaissance227 · 04/04/2011 15:30

Thank you SerenaJoy and MrsCLH!! I feel so much better now I know I'm not the only one.
I have bought some maternity trousers and now live in them every day until I put on my pjs at 8pm!!

Can't wait to get more energy so that I can do some gentle exercise.

I'm glad the bloat does turn into a real bump SerenaJoy, at the min I just feel like I'm having a food baby!!

Oh yeah, I live for that moment at the end of the day when I can get into my jammies! Tis brilliant. A bit of yoga or something might make all the difference with the bloating. Unfortunately I'm too lazy to do anything other than lie on the sofa eating chocolate.

It definitely grows into a real bump - I can rest my cup of tea on mine now Grin

Renaissance227 · 04/04/2011 15:45

That sounds like a good trick! Grin
Can't wait until I have an actual bump and don't just look like a whale for no reason!

That'll happen soon enough I'm sure - doesn't seem like long since I was complaining to DH about just looking fat!

Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy, I hope you start feeling a bit less, um, gassy soon! Smile

Renaissance227 · 04/04/2011 16:05

Thanks SerenaJoy Smile Hope all continues to go well for you. x

Same here, 20 weeks pregnant with DC2. By the end of the day I look as big as I did at full term with DD1. Then in the morning I barely look pregnant at all.

candr · 04/04/2011 17:57

I have the same thing, am 15 weeks and some mornings look like I could fit into my size 8's and by afternoon am in size 12's Am not retining water and eating normal portions now that I am eating again. Found it strange myself but have spoken to friends who say it is normal.

PrincessScrumpy · 04/04/2011 18:07

At my 12 week scan I undid my trousers (which fitted in the morning) and could only just do them up after the scan (4.30pm scan).

I think it's a combination of water retention and gravity pulling the baby and sac forwards.

I'm pg with twins and have had a bump since 7 weeks. I'm so glad we found out early it's twins or I would have been really down about weight gain. Not going near scales now I'm 15 weeks - I look 25!

Renaissance227 · 07/04/2011 14:10

I hope I'm not having twins! No history in the family so fingers crossed.
Just heard about someone today who had three sets of twins! Shock

Anyway, only a few more hours until pj time! x

OMG the dreaded bloat. My DP thinks it is twins or my dates are wrong but I keep telling him it is bloat. Getting married next week so have control pants to help!!
Anyone know of a solution?

LDNmummy · 07/04/2011 14:30

Yeah this happened to me. Its a combination of things and I think it pushes the little one to the surface a little too.

owlbooty · 07/04/2011 15:39

Me too! I actually asked the doc about it and she said it was because the fluid builds up all day...which then ends up with you having to get up in the night for a wee because it's all draining out again.

Oh, the joys. Grin

Renaissance227 · 07/04/2011 15:42

Great stuff! Makes me feel so good!! [confused}

Thanks ladies, nice to know I'm not the only one. I'm 21w3d and by end of day I'm huge. I also feel crap after 5pmish bloated constantly peeing and sickly. I too wait for the pjs!!

TerrysNo2 · 13/04/2011 21:40

Exactly the same, tummy gets bigger as day progresses!! Good job I leave work at 6pm or they would definitely notice after dinner!

PoppysMom · 14/04/2011 02:21

I have started measuring my tummy bloating difference between morning and evening.
The change is 4 inches! Shock

CrazyAlien06 · 14/04/2011 07:06

Same here! Am 15wks and lovely flat tummy (size10) in morning by lunchtime a chubby size 12/14!! I have no bump yet either so it is teasing me by giving me a bloated one! :-(
Roll on bump!x

Renaissance227 · 14/04/2011 08:59

CrazyAlien06 There must be some bump there at 15 weeks!
Plus, you're very luky if you are a super slim size 10 in the morning. I start my day as a lovely chubby size 12/14 and then get bigger! Shock

Never thought to measure it PoppysMom but having seen mine getting bigger every day I can definitely believe that! Smile

pod3030 · 14/04/2011 11:14

i get this too! it's worst if i eat bread/wheat. i feel like a huge swollen elephant seal by the end of the day! glad to see it's a normal part of the joys of preg. Wink

eastegg · 14/04/2011 11:19

Another one here who gets bigger during the course of the day. I'm 15 weeks and it's been the case since very early on in the preg. In fact thinking back to my last preg, I remember looking in the mirror (yes, it was in the evening) thinking I looked preg when I had absolutely no idea I was. Must have been about 4 weeks. Lots of bloating going on.

CrazyAlien06 · 14/04/2011 11:20

Hi Renaissance nope no bump! I have a very long torso so was warned that I won't show for a long time. Have 16 wk check next week so mw can check things are on the right track as do feel a bit of a fraud at the mo!x
