Hi everyone, I'm new to this so forgive me if this question is lurking somewhere else.
I had my 16wk screening test on Friday. The midwife didnt take my blood pressure or check the babys heartbeat. I'm now hearing from other friends who are expecting that they had this done as well as the screening test.
I'm hoping to get in touch with my midwife tomorrow to ask why she didnt check my bp or babys heartbeat but do any of you now if this is the norm or if I'm becoming the overanxious mum to be I'm trying so hard not to be!!
Thanks in advance!

It's totally dependant on area and MW....I had my babies heartbeat checked at my 16 week antenatal, but apparently this isn't the case for a lot of ladies.

The reason being that the heartbeat can be difficult to locate at only 16 weeks gestation, so a lot of MWs don't bother trying, incase they can't detect the heartbeat easily- as that will obviously distress the mum.

So don't worry, it's quite normal for MWs not to start checking the heartbeat til around 20 weeks+

As far as your BP is concerned, it should have been checked at your booking appointment when you were around 8-12 weeks, so won't have changed much since then.....then again they don't tend to worry about your BP rate until you are a little further along.

Good-Luck and congratualtions!

They've changed the NICE guidelines recently about checking the baby's hb at 16 wks, as often it can't be found and it stresses the mother out. That's what my mw told me, anyway; altho she said she was old school and was going to listen anyway.
I wouldn't fret too much about it, but give her a ring anyway if you want some reassurance, that's what she's there for.
