Im a Horrible Person..

Found i am pregnant 2 days ago..wasnt planned...minute i found out i stopped smoking..just had a few drags of a fag a few minutes ago..i feel so lousy...

No i dont plan on smoking again...didnt smoke for my last pregnancy...but did have 3 miscarriages before i had my daughter and obviously am stressed ...feel like im waiting to lose this one too..

hardly a horrible person, you are understandably stressed after three misscarriages. Just try your hardest not to smoke you cannt ask anymore than that and stop giving yourself a hard time

Take a deep breath and move on. It was silly, yes, but you can promise yourself that that is the last time.

Please don't be so hard on yourself. Lots of women smoke throughout pregnancies and their babies are fine a few puffs will not have harmed your baby. If anything the way you are feeling now will probably be a very strong reason for you not to do it again. Good luck with the pregnancy and congratulations.

thanks...i know once..i get to the hospital and get an early scan and know if things are ok...being off the fags wont be a problem...but i just needed those few drags tonight...but feel so bad..i still cant believe im pregnant...

First off, Congratulations.

Obviously I wouldn't recommend this but my mum smoked and drank like a sailor throughout both of her pregnancies and me and my sister are fine. I am teetotal and have never even had a drag on a cigarette and had a miscarriage through my first pregnancy.

Try not to beat yourself up about it, the main thing is that you don't want to smoke.

I was worse with my last pregnancy. Having had 2 mcs and done everything right I was so anxious I was still smoking 5 a day until my early scan when I saw the baby and things clicked.

Please don't stress about the odd drag... Blimey... People chain smoke through pregnancy and still have healthy babies.

Don't beat yourself up. Plenty of people drink and smoke lots before they find out they're pregnant and their babies are fine.

I smoked 3-4 a day throughout both of my pregnancies (with doctors' blessings ) and both dcs were on a heavy side when born and healthy.

Obviously, it's not a good idea to smoke when pregnant, b ut a few puffs will not have harmed the prospects of having a successful pregnancy. Congratulations

Hey don't be so hard on yourself. I planned my last child and was desperate for another baby (after 1 child and 2 MC's). It still took me a good 3-4 weeks to totally give it up. If it were that easy to just drop it then the first time it was windy, freezing and rainy the entire country would be cured, we aren't though, because it's not that easy.

I was a smoker 12 years, I secretly longed not to be, the NHS go smokefree approach just made me want fags even more and smoking all the way through pregnancy with DD1 was the most embarrassing thing I have ever had to do. I can promise you hand on heart that 1 sneaky fag is par for the course and you should forgive yourself immediately. Kickng yourself for it will only make you want another one.

If you really want to quit, I think this book is 100 times the better than nicorette, hypnosis, a penny jar and scary posters of babies with fags in thier mouths put together. Reading it all the way to the end is harder than you might think.
