Womb (Fundal Height) measuring 31cm, am only 25+3 - what does this mean?

So should I be worried. What could this mean for me and baby?

I went to see the midwife yesterday morning and she did the funal height measurement. At first she worked it out to be 34cm and then went to get the head midwife to get a second opinion, who measured me at 31cm.

Iam nearly 5,10" and a size 18 so am a larger lady (LOL) as the midwife described me which may have an effect on the size of my uterus. The thing is, they told me not to worry about it and they will measure again in 2 weeks, but now I am worried.

Has anyone experienced this before? Some info or advice would be much appreicated.

Thanks All
storm

Do you have a customised fundal char in your notes? I have a chart in my notes that shows a graph showing average sizes etc but as I am 5ft 2 and a 10/12 normally mine wouldnt apply to you very well.

Thanks lolajane I actually think I do have something but not sure if its customized to me. I will have to have a look in a little while as I am at DP's parents and the notes are upstairs in their room and they are fast asleep!!!!

What will these be able to tell me?

they'll be able to tell you average size per week for someone your height and weight if customised. I don't know how it looks if not customised.

I guess the biggest concerns are a big baby or too much fluid round baby but the most likely scenario is that baby is just fine. If they are at all concerned in a couple of weeks then they'll probably refer you for a growth scan where they check fluid as well.

Best wishes for your pregnancy x

I'm about the same size as you and throughout my 2nd pregnancy measured 4 weeks ahead of my dates. MW told me DD2 was going to be a "monster" Hmm but she was only 6lb 11. She did arrive 3 weeks before EDD, but DD1 had arrived 2 weeks before EDD so don't know if fundal height had anything to do with it.

Im measuring big for my dates aswell, I was told not to worry as long as the graph is increasing and not pettering off then the baby is healthy.
If it continues to be big for the dates they will send you for a growth scan to check to see if you have a big baby, or if theres to much fluid. This will not happen till after 34 weeks i think. Sometimes the measurments get back to the normal curve on the graph.

Everyone carries differently and the fundus chart isnt that accurate, nor are the date scans really.

Try not to worry, its common and there probably nothing wrong, as long as the measurements dont go down, you shouldnt worry.

Thanks ladies you've put my mind at rest. To be honest I really wasn't that concerned until DP started googling it (pain in the rear) and then telling me about what he'd found out.

MW was a bit scatty and kept forgetting things which, after thinking about what DP had been saying and how my appointment had gone (I have to point out that the appointment went fine in every other department) started to make me feel uneasy!!!!

I have growth scans booked in already cos in the beginning they were worried he was going to be on the small side due to my low PAPPA results. It seems I go from one extreme to the other.

Also, after speaking to my mum, who is only 5,4' and got back into her size 8 jeans pretty much straight after giving birth to me (lucky cow), her doctor constantly told her I would be an amazonian baby due to the fundal height (on the v. tall side) and he was right, I was v. long when I was born. So I'm just going to put it down to the likelyhood that baby will be pretty tall (I'm just under 5,10' and DP is 6,3').......for the time being anyway! Hopefully all will go well in a few weeks.

Thanks again XXX
