You poor thing.

If you can't even keep water down, that's a worry. Do you have a number for the community midwives yet (I didn't have my booking appointment until 12 weeks, so perhaps you don't)? There's every chance you'll need to go to hospital for rehydration - if you can't contact the midwives, consider A&E / walk in centre.

Nicky7611 · 01/04/2011 12:10

You must go back to your gp and complain. Take you partner/mum for support. There is medication you can take safely. I felt the same as you did, I know how awful it is. I took medication until about 14 weeks ish.

I feel so angry at your gp I want to give him a piece of my mind too, you poor thing

buttonmoon78 · 01/04/2011 12:17

I second this. I've never suffered from MS let alone HG but even I know that there's stuff you can take. Contact your EPU or A&E if your gp continues to be a pratt. And complain about him too. Stupid man.

TigerFeet · 01/04/2011 12:22

see another gp

you will end up in hospital with dehydration if you carry on like this

i was on meds for most of my last pregnancy, I was as bad as you. still felt sick a lot but could keep water down and some food so could function

I really feel for you, it is the pits

jellyhead188 · 01/04/2011 12:35

You need to see someone else, you can take medication and they need to make sure you stay hydrated. Hope you get some help soon xx

nannyl · 01/04/2011 13:25

oh you poor thing.

I was exactly like you 8 weeks ago, at 8 weeks.

I went to the GP everyday for 3 days (when i kept down nothing (not even ice) for over 72 hours). Eventually i was admitted to hospital, day 2 i got antisickness tablets, but were no use as i vomited them.

I know how awful you can feel (and have no idea how you are coping with a 2 year old as well)

I too had HG and am still vomiting most days and on anti-sick pills, which my doctors wont prescribe unless really really bad either. It is horrible, but the last 3 weeks or so have been so much better than the previouse 7!

Call Drs NOW and make another emergancy GP appt. Take a urine sample.
Really hope you feel better soon. It is unbelievabley horrible.
If you are still being sick go to drs tomorrow as well, and the next day!

On my 3rd appt (the one where GP called hospital and sent me straight there) I had to deal with a receptionist who was not going to let me have a drs appt, (but would let me have a nurse!)... be persistant, i had to INSIST on my right and need to see a Dr, and tell her my right to see a Dr, ... thankfully i got one eventually (that morning), but it was not easy

Coppernoddle · 01/04/2011 17:54

Sucking lollipops will help you break down the key tones your body produces and helps you absorb water and food. The suffer is absorbed through your cheeks! I have extreme hypremises in all my pregnancies and end up in hospital several tines with each, a couple of weeks ago I was down a&e as I manages to burst blood vessels in my throat due to being sick and my throat nearly closed over! Very pleasant! Eat little and often as much as you can, you'll be surprised with how much does actually stay down, but persevere, and keep with ice cubes.
And get medication!! I used buccastem, it's a tablet you put under your lip and it takes an hour to dissolve, which worked, but did cause insomnia, which could make you more sick due to lack of sleep, but may be different for you!
Good luck, and I know how this hell feels! There is an end!!!

emmaadams · 01/04/2011 18:25

thank you everyone for your advice and support, i have been back to the doctors he has told me to give it another week to see how i am!!!!!!! even worse than now i bet but i have tired ice cubes and kepted that in so least its something.
I have already been a&e last weekend and was given 9 hours in there and told they couldnt do anything but to come back if worse!!!
i work in a restuarant so cant even stand the smell of food let alone work with it, i feel worse with it being mothers day we are going out with all my sisters and brothers for a meal i think i will order ice cubes!!!!!!!

will keep ya posted seeing my midwife tomorrow see if she can help me

Your GP is a dick.

I had this too, my GP was awesome and I got tablets straight away. When things got really bad the only thing I could keep down was Cherry Coke. It's a bit dirty but it worked.

Keep at it and I hope you feel better soon.

ReadingRage · 01/04/2011 18:43

When I was pregnant with DS, ended up in hospital with hyperemesis, the only thing that worked for me was anti-sickness suppositories (I know, a bit yuk but preferable to being continually sick), stemetil I think

nannyl · 01/04/2011 19:01

emmadums.
If you keep being sick then go back to drs. do NOT wait a week.

But you sound like you are up / about / at work? or have a misunderstood that?
When i had hyperemisis i could hardly get down stairs, and quite simply could NOT have gone anywhere or done anything at all. I was bedridden and could not even tolerate OH turning over (or moving) on his side of the bed.

I had a day when i could only drink coke, a day when i could only drink grapefruit juice, a day when i could only drink grapefruit juice, a day of only ribena, a day of only lemon squash, a day of only cloudy cox pressed apple juice etc etc I went through EVERY drink sold by my local co - op, and then couldnt drink any of them at all! nightmare! Water was one of the 1st to be crossed off my can drink list! and even now i cant drink it!

Really hope you feel better soon and keep some fluids down, but if you dont back to drs..... after 72 hours of nothing i felt so ill i thought i was going to die.

nitnatnaboo · 01/04/2011 21:38

Emmaadams come and see us on the Hyperemesis thread here

Nannyl are Adamomma are right - you can't go for 7 days without keeping anything but ice down and it is utter bollocks that they can't do anything. There are about 10 different meds (safe in pg) that you can try. GP's are either great with HG or a nightmare.

emmaadams · 03/04/2011 09:07

nannyl nope im off work i cant move out of bed in fact im using our pull of sofa as a bed so its in the room with my little one. im going back to the docs tomorrow i still unable to keep anything down and i am losing weight i will demand tablets off him and im not leaving ill i get something or he puts me in hospital i cant do this anymore i stand to got he toilet and feel my legs will go i have nothing left i have had eenough so thank you for all ur support and advice.

i will up hold the rage till im at the doctors x x x

I had hyperemesis with both pregnancies. The GP presribed me anti-travel sickness tablets which did help with the constant throwing up but sent me to sleep and turned me into a zombie.
Somedays the only food/drink I could tolerate was to suck ice cubes.

nannyl · 03/04/2011 09:38

Oh God Emma,
So sorry to hear that.... thats exactly how i was about 8 / 9 weeks ago. It was AWFUL.
Demand some tablets. Also take a urine sample as if you are peeing ketones (ie body is digesting itself, due to not having anything else) you are likely to be admitted to hospital. (I was)
And it was worth it.... after a couple of litres if IV fluids i started to feel better. oh it was bliss to be feeling better. Shame it didnt last but hey!

It took me 2 days of daily dr appts, to get anti-sick tabs and 3 days to be admitted to hospital though. (pee checked each time) Anti sick tabs were no good when i vomited everything, so vomited them as well.

I really feel for you and have no idea how you are looking after a child.

A tip i found useful. When i took anti-sick tabs it was important to not vomit them (although sometimes impossible) I found lieing in a dark room, on my side, eyes closed and NOT MOVING A MUSCLE at all, and just breathing for an hour helped.. after an hour you can be sick and tabs will have been absorbed and can therefor do their stuff.

Also take them 8 hourly. I did 7am (still in bed) 3pm (back to bed for an hour, though more often or not i hadnt really left bed) and 11pm (as going to sleep)

get youself to the Dr asap! Really good luck and hope you feel better soon XX

burmesegrumbler · 03/04/2011 09:39

Poor you! I threw up so much I burst blood vessels all over my face and in my eyes....rushed to the hospital with unexplained blood rash only to be told it was from the strain of so much heaving. I was offered anti sickness, but thought I'd try some old fashioned remedies first. However dehydration is a worry, take the tablets and when things settle a bit and you are feeling up to it try some of the things that worked for me:

Eating a rice cake/banana as soon as I woke in the morning (this means putting something to eat on your bedside table so it's right there to hand as soon as you wake).

Drinking lots of water - sipping all day, not downing in big gulps and room temperature water, not cold.

A few sips of ginger tea when things were really bad. I hate ginger tea but it really did settle my tummy.

Avoiding anything with citrus on an empty stomach.

Hope this passes for you very soon!
