No weight gain at 16 weeks

I am 16 weeks tomorrow and haven't gained any weight yet. Should I be worried? I have a 17 week scan and will speak to consultant then, but can't help but think I should be putting weight on by now. I am 5'6" and 8st 10. No bump yet to speak of either (though sometimes a food baby in the evenings) :-(

i think its fine

spoke to MW yesterday as was concerned at my rapid weight gain and she said
some women put on lots,
some women put on some,
some women put on none and
some women lose weight

she said they are not concerned unless
the mum had gained or lost too much or
the mum is very Over weight to begin with
the mum is very under weight to begin with

so think as you were a healthy weight before, there is nothing to worry about

but as you say, ask your consultant next week to put your mind at rest

god you're lucky! Honestly, I'm not keeping track of my weight - just my fitness. Have you had bad morning sickness? Do you think you could/should be eating a bit more?

G1nger · 30/03/2011 13:48

(seems I can't do that strike through thing as well as I'd hope)

owlbooty · 30/03/2011 13:48

I hadn't put any on at 16 weeks either. I have now Grin the MW said it can ramp up a bit at 20 weeks, which is exactly what has happened.

citymonkey · 30/03/2011 13:52

I have had constant nausea since 6 weeks so have no appetite, but I haven't been sick at all until yesterday when I puked in the office (grim), but there was nothing to throw up at that point other than water.

I am still eating as I usually would, probably eating less crap (biscuits / chocolate etc) just because I have no appetite for it. Eating a lot more fruit than usual - mainly strawberries - though I think that is because they are juicy and I am always thirsty...

At 16 weeks I had lost a stone and a half. Went on to have a healthy 7pounder.

lilly13 · 30/03/2011 14:30

I wouldn't worry about it. I am 5'6, 53kg pre-preg. By 16 weeks, I put on around 3-4 pounds... I had no morning sickness and no cravings, but I did have a bit of water retention... Then it all caught up with me in late 2nd-3rd trimesters... I am now 34 weeks and put on 11kg.. Feel like a whale... Hope it all goes well for you!

iskra · 30/03/2011 14:39

I think it's not something to worry about. I don't have scales so I have no idea whether I have gained or not. As long as you are eating healthily it's fine.

At my 12 week appointment they weighed me on this complex BMI assessing machine that told me my ideal weight was 600g less than I was Hmm

lolajane2009 · 30/03/2011 15:02

i've put on 1.3kg at 15 + 5 so at least I am not alone. Was 60kg before xmas and now 61.3kg. I am not too worried as my bump is quite respectable.

VivClicquot · 30/03/2011 15:06

I don't think I put on a single pound until I hit the 17/18 week mark. I'm now 35+2 and my weight gain is now just short of two stones, so I can assure you that you will see some gain eventually :)

citymonkey · 30/03/2011 16:26

Thanks VivCliquot... I do have a feeling that I will think back to posting this thread when I am the size of a house and guffaw at my naivety..!

I'd put on nothing at that stage. I proceeded to put on 3 kilos between 6 and 7 months, and have only put on 10 kilos total so far at 37weeks. Started of 5'7 and 55kgish.

buttonmoon78 · 30/03/2011 17:34

Can't quite remember but I think at 20 weeks (all of 2.5 weeks ago Blush) I'd put on about 6lbs. I did a quick poll of my ante natal thread and normal at that stage seemed to be anything from 0lbs - 2stone.

So I wouldn't worry at all. I'm sure everything's fine. Also, re bump, I don't really get one until about 22 weeks when I suddenly wake up with a proper bump. Until then it's just a bit of podge around my middle.

camdancer · 30/03/2011 18:20

At 18 weeks I'd lost 1kg from my pre-pregnancy weight. Sadly I've made up for it now. 30 weeks and feel as big as a house! I'm scared to go near the scales but my bump is very obvious, wobbly and sponsored by Cadbury. Blush So much for not putting much on during this pregnancy.

VivClicquot · 30/03/2011 19:17

Ha city - I remember feeling irritatingly smug about it at the time. I'm not so smug now.... Wink

doodledee · 30/03/2011 19:29

Don't worry! I didn't put weight on until well into 20+ weeks, at 16 weeks remember panicing at mw that tummy was still really flat. She reassured me the bump would come and boy did it come!!

otchayaniye · 30/03/2011 20:21

I am 20 weeks and haven't put any weight on. In fact I lost a stone (much wanted by the way) and am about your weight now.

I do have a really round watermelon bump that has appeared in the last week or so, but then it is my second child.

I am still throwing up (but only once a day now and not the whole meal) but otherwise feel great and eat healthily. No doc or midwife has expressed concern.

I consider it good fortune. I put 4 stone on with my first and it was a bitch to shift. I'm glad I am a size smaller

But am finding maternity clothes are too big and have to buy expensive Seraphine/IO stuff in a '0" or '1' and send lots back or resell on eBay. I bought some M&S pyjamas in a size 10 and honestly, they look like a size 18.

apricotears · 30/03/2011 21:53

I am 18 weeks and have put on only 1.4 kgs. Doctor says it's nothing to worry about, and that I will probably put on most of my weight in the last trimester. I am making the most of it, still wearing all my normal clothes etc.

FeralGirlCambs · 31/03/2011 09:07

I didn't put on any - actually lost a couple of pounds - up to 17 weeks. Now 22 and have put on about 3 lb; still in all my normal clothes. M/w said this is completely fine. And VivClicquot I am awaiting my comeuppance for smugness!
