I've had a few during this P and have been using the Compeed patches without any problems. They are particularly useful for overnight - they do look a bit daft sometimes when you're out and about, depending on where the sore is and how it sticks.

If you want to wait to speak to your GP first before using any drugs then try some natural remedies. Hold an ice cube to it with some kitchen roll/muslin - this is supposed to help kill the virus and reduce swelling. Avoid citrus fruits as this triggers/irritates the sore for some people. Dab a bit of kitchen roll in apple cider vinegar and gently hold it to the sore til you feel it tingling. (But be careful not to press it on your skin - it can make it a bit red - and always use a fresh bit kitchen roll when you re-apply.) The apple cider method works best when you first notice a tingle (I've sometimes had complete success with killing it off before it turned into a beast) but it's still worth a go.

You should be looking better in a week - it may be a bit scabby but a lot better than today. My sympathies though, I hate them too.

That's crap of your DH to be repulsed by you though, nice! Mine very politely says "don't worry, I can hardly see it" which is the correct response, even if it's a bit of a lie. Wink

Oh and also, they are usually a sign that you are a bit run down. Mine have popped up after particularly stressful week, or when I wasn't eating as well as I could have been. So look after yourself, slow down and try to get lots of rest and good food inside of you (if you don't have MS that is!)

Just wanted to offer some sympathy, because the past couple of weeks I have had my first cold sore in years....literally the first one in about 20 years. Am pregnant with DC2, didn't get a single one when pregnant with DD1. And my skin has gone to shit, to boot - it was lovely with DD1. Sad

My hairdresser gets them loads and said that Zovirax is the only thing that works for her. I've also tried using the cold sore patches like nomoreheels said (basically like small blister plasters) and found they at least took the pain away (ditto with the acne, actually, which was good).

Tell your DH to go and f* himself. You're pregnant!

Take care and I hope the GP can help x

Hi spoke to doc over phone and I'm allowed Zovirax but no point if it's already come out she said. Would love to rest but can't, up walking dog at 630 then into school( primary teacher) no breaks all day as have to work through them. Spend lunchtimes at my laptop preparing for afternoon then after school more work then home, do housework and then cook dinner, then more schoolwork then bed! I would give anything to just sit with my feet up reading a book! Roll on the Easter holidays as I may have time to do that then:-)

I'll try the ice remedy if I get time lol
X
