UTI

I have been experiencing lower pelvic pain, a more frequent need to urinate however when i go its only a trickle, increased pelvic pain when urinating and on occasion lower back pain for about a week now. I have just spoken with my midwife who said that it sounded like a urinary tract infection and that i need to make an appointment with a doctor taking a urine sample to be sent for testing. She has worried me slightly though by saying that if it is left untreated it can bring on early labour.... I am only 20+2 weeks!

I have an appointment with doc on thursday morning but I could probably push for an earlier appointment if i explained the situation. Am I being paranoid? I just have no idea how long they mean when they say "if left untreated".

Any experiences of this? Advice/reassurance appreciated.

My GP was very clear on my first appointment with her that I should go to her with any urinary tract infection - precisely because of this issue. Push for an early appointment, if for no other reason then the discomfort you are feeling. But yes, it's apparently important to get it treated.

I've had 2 UTIs this pregnancy, first was treated with penicillin which didn't quite clear it up, then went on another AB (can't remember the name)

Don't worry too much, just insist on a gp appt asap & get your scrip as soon as you can. My surgery would normally squeeze me in same day because I'm P.
