big knickers

sorry to ask such a draft question, but when people say to stock up on big knickers, do they mean a size or two up from your normal, or full bum coverage rather than g-string?

Hmm this could be to do with the MASSIVE sanitary pads you have to wear after the birth. Or it could be that big knickers i.e. apple grabbers (as my husband calls them) are comfier when you have a huge tum?

I assume its for those days post birth when you need lots of changes of pants, and want full bum coverage for the v frequent change of maternity pads!
If I remember from last time, I needed big comfy pants for a good couple of weeks after.
You have a couple of options so you dont spoil any frillies that might still fit!

1. buy some disposables from somewhere like mothercare
2. buy some 'value' type pants from the supermarket that you can almost use as disposable.

I have just got some sorted for myself (33 weeks now but anticipating early delivery). I got 1 pack of 5 of the paper ones for the first day or so and then 10 pairs (2 x 5 pack value) size 16 black full size pants! I know I will end up chucking some of these away but I will wash some too. Definately not terribly attractive but needs must! I am size 10 when not pg but need the 16s to get my ample pregnant bottom into and will need for remainder of bump after.

Also, if you have a CS they must not rub the scar, so need to go well under or well over. I just got a couple of big packs of Size 18s from Sainsbury's (black!). Full bum and tum coverage.

Right. Big pants mean apple grabbers but I didnt need a bigger size than normal. They need to be comfy and accommodate the enormous pads you need for a week or two. Disposable pants are shit. Get real ones.

I am a pre pregnancy size 18 and I have got some asda maxi briefs in a size 24 and they are super comfey and don't fall down so my MW said they are a good idea

Massive pants were a must for me post-births. Big sanitary towels and wobbly tummy needed spacious accommodation. I bought a size bigger than I wore pre-pregnancy, and got a load of 'full briefs' from somewhere like Matalan. They were fab, and I was gutted when they became too saggy and I had to cut them down for pan scrubs.

I confess that I might have started to wear some of my big granny hospital pants already...I am 36 weeks. Just occcassionally when I am running low and fancy some full-on arse coverage.

DH is HORRIFIED. He gets why I need them but has asked that once I am all better I revert back to my nice pants. Said the biggies remind him of his mum "who clearly didn't ever revert back to normal pants after we were born". Ha!

I am wearing my big pants at 9 weeks! Can;t stand anything tight on my waist.

Oh dear I am a big pants convert since my c-sec 3 weeks ago - so comfortable! Primark are the best for cheapos - 5 for 2.50. I find they are quite baggy and so don't get them too large.

i have been wearing primark jumbo pants since about 20 weeks anything under bump was just irritating. Now my bump is too big for these pants too but hopefully only have a couple of weeks to go (39+6) and then i can go back to hoicking my pants up to my armpits . I am a total convert!

When DH sees me in my maternity bra and mahoosive pants, he asks me if I am deliberately trying to be unsexy. He hasn't seen my nursing bras yet......

off to primark with my £2.50....

will get myself some 'full coverage' pants for post birth for those delicious giant maternity pads :-)

I am almost 38 wks and have bought some big granny pants to put in my hospital bag...

I am normally a size 10-12 but have bought high waisted, full coverage non maternity pants from Primark in a size 18! Any smaller and they won't be comfy over the flabby tum or c-section scar (if I end up with an EMCS), I will rejoice in throwing them away as soon as post partum bleeding has stopped!

Primark all the way though, as they are 100% cotton and only £2.50 for 5 pairs!! Perfect price for chucking away after!

I agree that disposable knickers are shit. Feels like wearing a shower cap with legs holes , and I cant believe how £ they are!! They should be pennies not pounds! You can definitely get cheaper multipacks in supermarkets/primark.

I'm 7 weaks and already feeling really uncomfy in my current pants. Just got them a size bigger for now so that I can pull them over my 6 months pregnant looking bloated belly :)

So much more comfy
