How hard/squishy should your bump be?

I seem to have a very firm bump (37 weeks), and during BHs I can quite clearly see the outline of how baby is lying. Now maybe I have an exceedinly strong uterus which is contracting to the max just to get in shape BUT surely it should be kind of squishy with fluid in?

I had some leakage around 22 weeks but nothing since then and it wasn't flagged up as a problem at my 3rd trimester scan or my last MW appointment.

Mine was rock hard from the time it developed until the time DD was born - when it became squishy, like jelly.

Think it's normal for it to be hard! It was not remotely squishy at all.

Ooooh okay that's good.

I just got freaked out by my neighbour earlier who had a good feel of my bump and commented on how hard it felt.

I-m 32 weeks and mine is rock solid.

nannyl · 27/03/2011 22:21

im 16 weeks and mine is squashy like jelly!

StiffyByng · 27/03/2011 22:29

Mine is squishy where I had excess padding before I got pregnant and hard where I didn't!

Mine is usually rock hard on the right hand side and squishier on the left. Is that weird? I'm 35 weeks today.

DirtyBit · 28/03/2011 09:12

Stegs mine is like that but more often on the left, I think that's where baby is lying :)

Imnotaslimjim · 28/03/2011 09:15

Mine was rock hard from about 28 weeks, but I did have a little extra padding to fill out

rightontime · 28/03/2011 09:28

ds1 I had a rock hard bump. It was hard quite early on. DS2 it was squishier but that is because I was 3 or 4 stone heavier. Blush

Mine has been almost rock hard all the way through (am also 37wks) which i put down to carrying alot of fluid (according to the scan lady) but have just noticed I have a cm of squishiness this morning!

I'm 32 weeks and my bump is STUPIDLY hard. Braxton hicks also show exactly where baby is lay and I'm not a waif at all. I woulnd't worry about it - in fact I'd marvel at it as if you've got lovely strong uterine muscles, well you'll practically sneeze baby out Grin

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 28/03/2011 10:02

wobbly I'd be terrified if that happened! I'm going to be holding every sneeze in now. My friend's MIL was scaring me with her 'I sneezed friends DH out - literally' story the other day too. Except she apparently didn't tear which is what I'd be worried about with a fast labour. No time to stretch IYSWIM!

I don't have any extra padding. I had lovely toned abs which seem to have separated beautifully Hmm but I don't think they'll be back any time soon!

LOL re sneezing...if only!
My bump is rock hard at 29 wks - hard to explain to DH who thinks it must be like having a pillow on your front..more like an over inflated space hopper

wobblyweeble82 · 28/03/2011 10:19

Having had a long drawn out labour with DS, I'm all for sneezing this one out! I can dream Grin And you're mad to hold sneezes in - a sneezing sesh is as exhilirating as I get at the moment! Oooh and nice analogy Jasmine :)
