ok i am now so fed up of having to hold onto the bottom of the toilet whist i push as hard as i can to get my poo out (tmi sorry)

45 mins i was on there last night (leaning back, feet in the air lol) and the worst part was that because i have a cough/cold i didnt have any strength to push. I feel drained just thinking about it!

Pregnancy is so much hard work lol !!!!

Drink plenty of water and walk as much as you can. Walking really helps.

I read that putting a low stool (e.g. baby steps) by the loo for your feet helps but can't remember why - something about knees above hips?

Beccy2011 · 27/03/2011 20:43

thanks everyone

ive tried the step idea and it does seem to help having your feet raised up (ive needed to resort to feet raised up in mid-air on a couple of occasions Blush which is uncomfortable for a long period of time, but helps a bit).

The worst thing is that i seem to have lost my ability to push properly to be able to resolve the constipation!

I'm not there yet, but I have been eating a lot of salads. I don't know whether the hormones will stick me in the same boat as you yet. But if they do, I suspect I'll be making occasional use of a home enema kit. It has to be worth it!

lolajane2009 · 27/03/2011 21:13

I go from one extreme to the other.

Have you tried lactulose syrup? I'm pretty sure you can take during pregnancy. It's not a laxative more of a greasing agent (sorry tmi!) it justs aids the process and helps to smooth the way iyswim!

You can get it from the chemist and I'm sure they'll be able to confirm if it's ok during pregnancy. If you keep straining how you are you'll end up with piles and nobody wants that!!!

bumble34 · 27/03/2011 21:56

yep i second that lactulose completely safe in pregnancy I had constipation really badly last time Yes i got piles and had a tear that just wouldn't heal for weeks I can't tell you how painful it was. I'd creep back downstairs to my dp giggling "oh dear had a poo have we come and sit down oh no you probably don't want to" I would have slapped him but couldn't move fast enough!
