hi there crawling. i cant answer what it is in it your craving or a substitute but just wanted to let you know that my first craving with my first pregnacy was coffee. I had never liked it before it just smelled horrible to me up until then, but from that point on i couldn't get enough of the stuff. And coincidentally it never left me I have never ever gone back to tea and no longer like it at all. strange isnt it to want something you know you dont like at all.

Crawling · 26/03/2011 19:12

I am having this same craving an I never drink tea! It's not like an all day urge to drink tea, just in the mornings and once in the day. Quite a bit different to my previous 2 pregnancies when I just craved ice cubes! Can't be down to it being a different sex as I already have a boy and a girl!

ilovesprouts · 30/04/2011 09:18

when i was pg i could not drink tea at all made me sick ,i had a boy but drank tea whith my dd !!

when I was pregnant with my first I had a craving which lasted the whole pregnancy for cherry tomatoes and satsumas. Both of which I hadn't like before (in fact had hated all citrus fruit). It never left me completely... and 5 years on I still enjoy eating tomatoes and citrus!

lol i crave beer and hate beer... ended up buying lager shandy but it takes edge off. also craving other alcoholic stuff too and I am normally teetotal... if anything the last time i drank, at christmas, for first time in a year, little one was created.

i love tea, green tea, yet one day I threw up a cup and haven;t been able to stomach since.....in fact the only tea I can stomach is earl grey with a bit of milk and I havent taken milk in tea for years as it made me feel sick!

LaWeaselIsOupaLaDouffe · 30/04/2011 10:54

I did exactly the same with DD.

Although I also found I didn't drink that much of it anyway, I suppose beacuse I'm just not in the habit of putting the kettle on.

(And it was only earl grey, black with a little cold water that was acceptable)

Crawling, you could get some decaf tea bags (to avoid having too much caffeine) & see how you get on with them?

I am a tea-drinker but have been craving seriously hot tea, like burn your mouth tea! If it goes to warm I can't stick it, weird. My Mum whilst carrying me craved super strong tea & couldn't drink it if it had "too much" milk in!

Eviepoo · 30/04/2011 18:26

lolajane I am also craving beer and wine, I have been known over the past few weeks to induge in some alcohol free beer - it's not the same but takes the edge off - especially with a drop of lime juice. I went to the supermaret yesterday to get some more and they had sold out - maybe there are more of us wanting beer out there! My other option is a glass of soda with a tiny bit of wine - just to get the flavour.

The 'older' ladies in my family have suggested a small glass of guiness or other stout, the strong flavour will take the craving away and they swear by the benefits of just a small glass of the stuff. I've not tried it yet.

Tea - has to be strong (Yorkshire preferably) and with a small amount of milk in it and not too cold - or I cant stomach it either

What funny picky creatures we become when pregnant

Evie, if you're a white wine drinker, Morrisons do a low alcohol (less than 0.5%) spritzer type thing called Green Ridge (I think!?) It's Chardonnay, water & grape juice & is lovely for getting the taste! :)

onesuzymac · 03/05/2011 12:35

I miss tea! Since about 8 weeks I've not been able to finish more than half a cup (not good for night shifts!). Decaf don't taste too different and will allieviate the too-much-caffeine worry if you drink lots. Likewise, my tea has to be hot and not too milky :)

wiiunfit - that may be just what I'm looking for! I miss white wine. Odd, as the smell of red wine makes me want to heave...

WiiUnfit · 03/05/2011 16:23

Give it a go onesuzy, I find it much nicer than the alcohol-free stuff. :) I've been the opposite - I'm a white wine drinker normally but I love the smell of red wine at the moment! Confused
