Unexpected Hospital Appointment!

Hi All
I have just received a letter from my local hospital asking me to come in for a "follow up" appointment in a week. We had our 20 week scan on Tuesday and was told nothing about any follow ups. Our next appointment (according to our green book is with the midwife at the surgery) but we are REALLY panicked now, as we had an amnio at 16 weeks (which came back negative) but we are worried that this follow up is something to do with that "wrong results, found something else etc"
We were just wondering if a follow up appointment after your 20 week scan was normal or if anyone else has had an appointment that wasn't expected?
We would call the hospital to find out but as it's the weekend, nobody is answering (and my mind is already running away with itself)
Thanks for any advice xx

We had to have a follow up scan after our 20 week scan as they couldn't do all the checks they needed to at the time, but tey told us in the room.

Have you contacted your midwife at all? Maybe she can put your mind at rest?

We were told that everything was fine with our scan and she was growing normally and all that jargen. I can't even get hold of my midwife either, as she went on maternity leave last week and I don't have the new details of her replacement.

I don't think I can take waiting till Monday morning to find out (good or bad)

You should have a copy of your scan report in your notes, what does it say on there? I think you will just have to stay calm until monday when the scan department/clinic opens but from my experience any appointments to deliver 'bad news' are usually made by telephone because they need to make sure you are going to attend.
If you ever need to contact your community midwife you can do so through your GPs surgery. Just out of interest, why did you have an amnio (and why at 16 weeks)?

I agree, when something needed more investigation for us they called us to make sure we could go ect

Maybe your hospital/birth centre might be able to help with a community midwife or something similar?

I've just checked my noted and it does say that I have a fibroid but its nowhere near baby. Just called the delivery suite and the midwife there seems to think that it's probably to do with that. She was 99% sure it wasn't anything to do with the amnio though, as she said it wouldn't take them 4 weeks to contact me. She is hopefully going to look at my notes today and give me a call back (fingers crossed).

We had the amnio due to high blood test results.
Mind is alot easier now I have called but why oh why can't they put something on these letters that states what the appointment is actually for!

Did you hear back the end? Is all ok?

Hi All
Sorry it's taken so long but we decided to take a last minute holiday after all the stress.
Pleased to say that everything was fine! Even the doctor wasn't sure why we had the extra appointment. She guessed it was something to do with the fibroid but due to it's size and position, it wasn't of concern to her. I could have kissed her at that stage but then again, I could have swung for her aswell. Even the midwife spoke up about the worry that was put on us for no reason!
6 months today and couldn't feel any better for it (apart from the throbbing lower region that now looks like a pair of testicles LOL)
xx
