has anyone else had too much wine and few cigarettes not knowing you were pregnant...

I feel awful! I am not even a smoker which tells you how much I drank! Just realised now that I am pregnant....all I can think about now is what if something goes wrong...plus I just hate waiting for the first scan....

thoughts...

Don't worry about it now. It was one time and you need too look forward and not back now. Lots of us do 'naughty' things before we know we were pregnant.

Ragwort · 26/03/2011 15:04

I had no idea I was pregnant for the first 10 weeks (periods never regular and old enough for the menopause Grin) - I was drinking heavily normally for those 10 weeks (I'm not a smoker though) - no side effects whatsoever.

BigBadMummy · 26/03/2011 15:05

Yep, been there done that. Got the t-shirt

Got pissed alot with first, didnt know I was pregnant for five months
Got pissed with second, did a bungee jump at 8 weeks, didnt know I was pregnant

It is persistent drinking throughout the pregancy that is likely to cause damage, not what you have done.

Stop worrying and enjoy the pregnancy!!

missp2010 · 26/03/2011 15:06

I wouldn't worry, a. you can't do anything about it now and b. I think it's a massively common thing to happen!

I had a weekend away drinking lots of lovely cocktails and smoked lots too, found out a week later I was expecting DD. She turned out just fine :) I think we can all sympathise with waiting for the first scan, time seems to go incredibly slowly!

Congratulations!

MickyLee · 26/03/2011 15:07

Honestly you are panicking over nothing.

To put your mind at rest, I found out I was pregnant at 3 months along. In that time when I would of been 6 weeks, I went away on a hen do and for the entire weekend drank vodka and redbull and also smoked throughout the 3 months. Not Ideal I know but I now have a 2 yr DS running around without any health problems or never has (apart from the odd cold)

Please don't worry. They worry you enough once they are around :)

PerArduaAdNauseum · 26/03/2011 15:08

Got pregnant the night we got engaged (was working away during the week and monitoring ovulation so yes, I know exactly when it happened. And it was in a tent after about 3 bottles of wine).

Went back to work - congrats drinks with colleagues. Went back home next weekend - congrats meals and drinks with family.

My poor liver.

Baby was fine though. BFP about 10 days after, stopped drinking apart from the odd half glass of wine now and then.

Relax...

MmeLindt · 26/03/2011 15:08

Don't worry.

Think of all the people who go on holiday and get ratarsed every night for a fortnight then come home and discover they are pregnant.

You will be fine.

How far along are you?

oh, and congratulations.

MickyLee · 26/03/2011 15:10

berryfreeze · 26/03/2011 15:15

ok before i found out i was pregnant with ds i was on holiday in Greece drinking vodka and wine most nights, smoking loads, eating rare steaks soft cheese etc and also had a couple more nights out when i came back, only when i thought ohh bit late here and think this is more than a hangover sickness that i took the test and i was pregnant, now have a happy healthy 5 yr old, i stopped smoking and drinking, and just started a healthy diet, you will be fine, try not to worry that is the main thing.

confuddledDOTcom · 26/03/2011 15:26

Your body is clever, before you know you're pregnant - if you're not a freak like those of us who find out late - your baby isn't supplied with blood from your body. Afterwards though, as already said, it's heavy regular drinking that's a problem not a one off before you knew or the odd glass when you do know.

CrazyAlien06 · 26/03/2011 15:33

Hey I was exactly the same had positive morning after a heavy night out! Now 13 weeks and all was fine at first scan:D don't worry x

mamaesi · 26/03/2011 15:35

Was sort of in your position, could hardly see pg test , so drunk cos just thought was late, so must have been 4/5 weeks pg by then. Stopped drinking that mo, my DH from then had to (and still does) smoke outside. (Healthier babe than I ever was, despite parents not smoking drinking anyway)
Sure will be ok, that first scan so special, try not to let worry spoil it for you.x

boyscomingoutofmyears · 26/03/2011 15:43

Oh definitely nothing to beat yourself up about. I drabs abs smoked for the first 13 weeks of my first Pregnancy. Everything will be fine, just sit back and enjoy the morning sickness Smile

boyscomingoutofmyears · 26/03/2011 15:45

drank and sorry stubby fingers on iPod Blush

I agree the first scan is too special to spend fretting. Those first 12 weeks seem to take forever too!

Congratulations btw!!

lolajane2009 · 26/03/2011 15:50

To be honest you are showin you are resonsible just by worrying... if you werent concerned that would be scary.

wubblybubbly · 26/03/2011 15:50

A friend of mine didn't find out she was pregnant until she was 6 months gone. She'd done a helluva lot of partying in that time and worried herself sick for the last 3 months. She has a gorgeous 4 year old now, bright as a button.

We all find something to beat ourselves up over, this is just the start Grin

cryhavoc · 26/03/2011 16:06

I left my job and had a leaving party - got hideously drunk.
Two days after this I did the Three Peaks Challenge - climbed Ben Nevis, Scarfell Pike and Snowdon in 24 hrs - celebrated this by drinking heavily for 8hrs after we finished.
A week later found out I was 6 weeks pregnant. (I thought I was just tired because of mountain climbing and new job...turns out there was another reason!)

DD is 3, and is absolutely fine.

I'm sure you've done no damage at all. Good luck - waiting for a scan takes so long.

highheelsandequations · 26/03/2011 16:37

My friend and I consumed about 4 bottles of wine between us the night before my BFP, 24 weeks now and everything looks fine. Try not to panic :)

doodledee · 27/03/2011 14:29

I flew to italy b4 i knew - HATE flying, terrifies me, had whiskey and diazepam on way there - a week of excessive italian red wine followed by a very drunken flight back - DD perfect.

KatyN · 28/03/2011 09:09

I spent yesterday with both of our mums and had some fab insite into how different pregnancy advice is to 30 (ahem) years ago.
Both mum's smoked through their pregnancies and drank.. and clearly me and my husband are fine today.

So I say ring your mum and find out the crazy things she did!!

Bonkerz · 28/03/2011 09:19

I think its actually fairly common!
With DS1 i was out drinking every night of week (21 and good job own flat etc) pill/sickness and unprotected drunken sex meant i concieved and found out about it about 8 weeks later.........

With DD i had been out and got VERY drunk on the saturday and the only reason i even thought about testing was because my hangover lasted a little to long!

Am now 33 weeks pregnant and DH and I had given up on having another baby (i had been told i wasnt ovulating) Turns out i concieved on Aug 8th and the weekend after went away for a boozy weekend with a girlfriend and then following weekend went out with work and had a few too many.......following week started feeling ill but thought i just needed a detox (nights out few and far between so thought id overdone it) and eventually after 15 tests decided i had to tall DH i was up the duff again! LOL
