Can I ask a few questions please?

How many weeks were you when you went into labour?

Had you shown any signs that you would go into labour early? If so what were they and when did they start?

I ask because I'm 34 weeks Monday, and on my 4th.

I'm getting some very funny things going on that I wouldn't expect for another 4 weeks or so.

Baby is head down and engaged and the pressure is immense, I feel like my waters are about to pop. I was in the shops today and I literally couldn't walk down the ailses. It felt like he was going to fall out and I had shooting/stabbing pains in the bottom of my bump and lady bits too.

I must've looked like I was in labour - but I had to pant through them!!

36 weeks
was 1st baby
no signs of anything untoward (except in hindsight had a bit of a show a day or so before)
very fast labour.

I am starting to seriously * myself. I am 34.5 weeks and first pregnancy. All fine so far, but suspected pre-eclampsia which will be confirmed in the next week. I had all along been told to expect a late delivery as it's my first...but my mother told me last night that I came along (fully healthy) at 35 weeks. With the risk of pre-eclampsia, I am now starting to engage my little brain out of denial and into reality - that I could indeed have a baby anywhere in the next month. WTF. I need to pack my hospital bag. No, first I need to buy a bag in which to pack the things. Thank god today is my last day before maternity leave (and I had felt guilty leaving so early).

living - i'm the same!!

when i was doubled over in the shop I panted to my mum 'i haven't even got a matress for his cot or any nappies!"

my waters went at 33 wks with my 3rd he was born 11 hours later at 4lb. no sign it was going to happen, didnt have anything ready!

mrspear · 25/03/2011 16:05

Well OP you managed longer so far than me! I gave birth at 30 weeks, no signs, just started as you would at 40 plus weeks! And turned head down at the last possible minute. In special care for 6 weeks and is now a happy, developing normally little boy!

TotorosOcarina · 25/03/2011 16:09

snot, were your others early?

mrspear glad he is ok :) was he your first child?

My 1st was 2 weeks lte the next 2 were on due date and day before due date.

"shooting/stabbing pains in the bottom of my bump and lady bits". Is this how you might feel if labour is near?? This is my first and I have no clue what even braxton hicks feel like, but I've definitely been getting shooting pains in the bottom of my bump and it's very difficult to walk. So far I've just blamed it on the SPD, but I'm starting to wonder.. I'm 32+5 weeks.. Argh, I have nothing ready Shock!!

nunnie · 25/03/2011 18:41

My last one #2 was born at 36 weeks, I had no signs he was coming at all apart from contractions which came on quickly and progressed very very quickly.

My 1st was born at 39+1 and this one is still cooking.

nunnie · 25/03/2011 18:44

Should of said he was 6lb 3 oz and bigger than my first. The only signs he showed of being early was jaundice which got him admitted at 5 days to go under light for 18 hours, apart from that he was healthy. He did end up as an EMCS as he was brow and distressed, but nothing to do with him being early.

snotdroolanddirtybums · 25/03/2011 19:02

my first was 2 weeks late and induced, 2nd was born at 38 wks and then my 33 weeker. you should def get in touch with midwife if you have any concerns though as they can give you the steroid injections. they only had enough time to get the first one in with me as they need to be given 24 hours apart. he was in scbu for 5 weeks. im hoping this one stays put until after 37 weeks! they are gonna give me the steroid injections as a precation though so it mustnt do any harm getting them as a 'just incase'

mumatron · 25/03/2011 19:20

i felt exactly like this with dc3. she was two weeks late.

it went on for about 6 weeks in all.

TotorosOcarina · 25/03/2011 20:02

nooooo he won't be late

he cant be the others were on time,

plus they put me back 2 weeks, by my dates im due in 4 weeks.

livingindc, if you have suspected pre-eclampsia do start getting ready for the baby's arrival - I was diagnosed with it at 30 weeks, and made it through to 34+4weeks before DS1 was delivered by c-section, and we were completely caught off guard, even with four weeks' notice that he could arrive at any time.

What are your symptoms at the moment? Is it high blood pressure and pluses of protein in your urine? Or are you swollen as well?

harrygracejessica · 25/03/2011 20:27

I had mytwins at 33+3 weighing 4lb 4 and 3lb15. Just sat up in bed one morning and my waters ruptured!!

I'm currently 33+1 with my 2nd set of twins and been contracting tonnes this pregnancy so just a waiting game for it all to start - I've had the steroids already.

nunnie · 25/03/2011 20:36

Two sets of twins how lovely.

livingindc · 25/03/2011 20:44

ttalloo - the only signs are protein in urine (trace amounts) and swollen feet/hands. Face is fine - keep checking frantically to see if I have developed a moon face but so far so good. Blood pressure is perfect though. Very odd. I thought I'd be put on bedrest but oh no, doctor told me that baby is developed enough (or will be after further monitoring at 35 wks) to be delivered soon...

pipoca · 25/03/2011 20:58

Marabou I get shooting/stabbing pains at the bottom of the bump and it's just round ligament pains, so prob nothing to worry about.

bessie26 · 25/03/2011 22:07

my waters went at 33+5 - no signs at all!

defo mention it to your MW though, baby's lungs should be developed ok by 34wks (which is what the steroid injections are for), but if there's some disagreement about your dates.....
