Pre-pregnancy clothes ... I see I am in denial!

After reading a lot of posts and experiencing smirks from friends ... I guess I'm not going to get in my pre-pregnancy jeans the first day I come out of hospital! So ... how long are we looking at realistically?

It varies so much. Have known a couple of people to do that Envy but others take 6 months or more.

I put on 2.5 stone with each pregnancy, lost the first 1.5 stone within days and was able to just about get my old jeans on after 6-7 weeks.

Sure there will be many others along with completely different experiences.

Newmummytobe79 · 25/03/2011 15:14

Wow - that's really good going! I'd be more than happy with that result marriednotdead! :)

Not to stir anything up ... but did you bf? x

bout 4 weeks with me.

FutureNannyOgg · 25/03/2011 16:20

7 months and counting...

marriednotdead · 25/03/2011 16:28

Yes, I did bf. But I have to tell you that your shrunken womb is about the size of a deflated balloon.

So some sit ups would have served me a lot better overall

happycamel · 25/03/2011 16:57

My friends tell me bf helps with losing weight (after all it burns extra calories) but only if you don't sit down with a plate of biscuits or a slice of cake when you do it! It's the old adage of calories in vs calories out. Alsoour NCT calss leader said that too much exercise can affect milk production so be careful not to over do it if you want to bf.

I plan to prioritise bf over weight loss but am hoping to be back to my pre-pg weight in 9 months (I figure it took me that long to put it on).

Your NCT teacher is wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong. And needs to update her knowledge quickly.

After 2 weeks I was back into most of my pre-pregnancy clothes and by 6 weeks I was half a stone lighter than I had started off.
I think I have breastfeeding to thank for that because I didn't do much for those 6 weeks other than feed and eat cake :)

Indith · 25/03/2011 17:21

I snapped right back with number 1 and was in pre preg jeans after a few weeks. With my second though I have completely changed shape and have some muscle separation so while I am the same clothes size I still can't do up my old jeans and dd is 2! I've had to get things in a different fit with a higher waistband.

I remember waking up and looking down my body in bed the morning after having my first and thinking i was going to be reasonably flat again.

How wrong was i?? What a shock Shock

Was i still pregnant? lol

It went down in the end. Also with next 2. But be warned if it's your first time - that belly may still be there the next day xxx Smile

BeanInMyBelly · 25/03/2011 22:29

3 weeks after giving birth I am back in all my pre-pregnancy dresses/leggings/trousers etc. Havn't tried my jeans yet but thats more down to still having a bit of tenderness down there (Sorry tmi). My belly is a little strange still though - its gone hard again but is still sticking out a liitle. Although with clothes on it looks flat again. x

Thornykate · 25/03/2011 22:39

Think it depends on the fit of your normal clothes too... If you usually wear loose clothes you might be ok but bear in mind that you will be wearing huge maternity pads & sanitary towels for a while after birth so your skinny jeans might not be the best thing to wear anyway.
I'm keeping my skinny jeans packed away for at least a month :)

motherofsnortpigs · 25/03/2011 22:44

I'm in the 9 months on, 9 months off club. Just to warn you - on 2 occasions, the week I got back into my 'proper' pre-preg clothes and down to my pre-preg weight I conceived :) My DDs are 18 months apart and I'm expecting a similar gap between DS and DC4....

Pootletrinket · 26/03/2011 08:48

With DD1, I put on so much, I still hadn't lost it almost 4 years later. With this one, have managed to lose some of that baby #1 weight during #2 pregnancy and am actually in my pre-pregnancy jeans still (37 weeks!) - OK, they were BIG jeans and I'm down to the last notch on the belt with them (was on about 4 or 5 before pregnant) - hoping this will be a weightloss baby!!!

TheProvincialLady · 26/03/2011 08:55

I lost it really quickly with DS1. I'm not sure how much weight I had put on as I didn't weigh myself, but it looked felt like a lot. I was back to pre-pregnancy weight within 6-8 weeks, aided by BF and a nasty womb infection. I could wear the same clothes but they didn't look anything like the same, what with the massive breasts and the wobbly saggy stomach.

Crawling · 26/03/2011 08:55

I was the opposite here Blush I put 3 stone on and lost 2 with labor but as I was used to being huge I felt tiny my partner had to point out that my figure wasnt quite good enough for belly tops Blush but I bf and was back in pre pg clothes 6 weeks both times.

MrsBloomingTroll · 26/03/2011 10:34

I bf and the weight dropped off in the first few weeks, even if my boobs were huuuuuuge and my tummy very wobbly.

But I then started the rounds of coffee mornings (with cakes) and lazy lunches with my new-mum friends. And piled the weight back on again, and more besides. Bf did make me feel hungry all the time Grin.

It was around 9 months that I snapped out of the mindset of all-you-can-eat (whilst reducing bf) and realised I needed to take action. I tried to lose it through exercise, which didn't work after a few months, so went to Weight Watchers and got it all off within a couple of months. I understand that WW now have a programme for bf mums, but honestly I'd say not to even think about it until you've finished bf, because you need extra water/liquid and calories.

However, my hips were still wider than before the pregnancy, and even a friend of mine who has worked (very) hard to regain a bikini body says that she still has a slight "mummy-tummy" that she can't shift.

I'm now pregnant again and planning on cutting myself a bit more slack this time, as this will likely (all being well) be my last pregnancy and I will then spend the rest of my life dieting...Sad

Casmama · 26/03/2011 10:45

I was back in pre-preg jeans within 4 days but they were slouchy jeans and, having had a bmi of 30 when I got pregnant, I was half a stone lighter than pre-preg within a week of giving birth.
However, I ate far too much chocolate whilst breastfeeding and continued after I had stopped feeding so now my son is 18 months I have put back on that half stone and another besides!

Fantail · 26/03/2011 11:47

I gained about 13kg during pregnancy, but a lot of that was water retention (I had pre-eclampsia) that I gained in the last 3 weeks of my pregnancy.

3 1/2 weeks on I have lost all of that and put on my pre-pregnancy jeans during the week. I lost a lot of muscle tone though, so am not back to my pre-pregnancy shape, plus I have bigger boobs, so while bottoms fit, tops do not.

Am breastfeeding, plus making sure that I get out for at least a 1/2 hour stroll every day - the weather is so nice that it would be silly not to take advantage, plus I think that the fresh air helps DD to sleep better. I am taking advantage of the extra calories spent breastfeeding and indulging a little too much, so am ensuring that I try and snack on fruit rather than biscuits! We limit takeaway meals to only once a week and we cook from scratch most the time at home anyway, which I think helps with all the sneaky calories that creep in.

I can't wait until my 6 week check after which I can start to do some more rigourous exercise.

Meglet · 26/03/2011 11:54

I was squeezing into my jeans at about 5 months. I had been going to the gym though.

My shape took longer to change after DC2. But 2 years on I'm the same size again.
