Descaling a steam steriliser

I've been given a steam steriliser and TBH it's a bit smelly (damp, musty smell)!

It says to descale with citric acid, so do I just buy a bottle of jif lemon and bung some in or what?!

(posted in Feed the World as well - hoping to get more traffic)

Boots do steam steriliser descaler sachets which I have used in my Avent one they are really quick, easy and clean to use.

Avent don't sell the sachets in store anymore you have to order it online from them. Also boots and most chemists don't sell citric acid anymore as apparently it can be used to make bombs!! I managed to get some from boots but they keep it behind the till at the pharmacy and the pharmacist had to o.k it!!!

Hi! Wilko's (Wilkinsons) sell citric acid. It's used in wine making. I think you have to ask for it at the Information desk. Hope that helps.

The Boots sachets I use are their own brand ones ( not Avent) on the shelf in the Baby section.

I have had no problem buying citric acid from Boots and Sainsburys, you do usually have to ask for it though.

Thanks everyone. I've used a descaling sachet and the thing still stinks so I'm going to stick some lemon juice in there later too!
