Destination Maternity - anyone know how US sizing works?

Hi
Am thinking of ordering a top from Destination Maternity and just wondered for those of you who have used them/ordered from them, any advice on how the US sizes compare to UK? Do the clothes tend to fit on the big side? Is it fairly easy to deal with returns etc?

Thanks for the help. xx

Aren't US sizes two numbers smaller than UK? So an 8 is a Uk 12, etc?

Yes, it's as FeralGirlCambs says. But in my experience, generally a US size 8 is slightly larger than a UK 12. (I'm on the large side for UK 12 in some shops, but always fit US 8 comfortably.) This is in general - I haven't bought anything from Destination Maternity.

It depends on what size you are. I am American and living in UK now. I am a US 20 and wear a UK 18 but it can vary from shop to shop and with different types of garments. As far as returns, I have found most US online retailers to be brilliant when I lived in the US but I would NOT make any returns from here due to cost alone. Maybe take measurements (chest, waist, hips, length, etc) of a garment that you own that fits and email Destination Paternity with your measurements and what you want to order and they can help alleviate the need for a return later on.

I usually wear a size 6 American, size 10 UK but some retailers sizes vary so much. Anything from Gap in the US is always huge!

I went to NY a few weeks ago and bought tons in the Destination Maternity store there. Clothes tend to be in S/M/L.

I'm normally a size 10/12 in trousers and was a small in DM for both their Motherhood and Pea in the Pod ranges. In tops I'm normally a size 8/10 and again was a small but got the x small for a couple of stretchy Pea in the Pod t shirts. The clothes are v nice, Pea in the Pod better quality than the Motherhood range but then more expensive, but I bought lots from the sale rail.

Report back and tell us what the ordering online situation is like!

Hi, I ordered all my clothes there. I am 5'6, pre-pregnancy weight 53kg (UK size 8-10); now 33 weeks, gained 10kg. Size small in skinny leg jeans and ponte pants by Motherhood and Heidi Klum fit perfectly. I love Heidi Klum jeans the best, have 2 pairs... The over belly pants/jeans are made differently than the ones you find in the UK (super comfy when you get big as there is no rubber band, however, if you are slim I wouldn't wear them till mid-late 2nd trimester as they might be too generous around the belly). Tops by Motherhood size small were initially loose on me until end of 2nd trimester, but now fit perfectly after my tummy really popped out (my chest went to only 34B)... Don't get belly band -- they are made gigantic, could fit 2 people in there... Generally, US sizes are a couple of sizes smaller than UK ones, provided you have a fairly standard figure. Pre-preg I used to wear US size 2-4... The return policy there is 45 days if you keep receipts and tags. Hope this helps.
