I'm currently 18 weeks with my 2nd, and I've not felt any 'flutterings' / movements yet.

I know that by 20 weeks with my first I was feeling them very regularly (as I got booted during my scan!) - I THINK they started aroung 18 weeks - and I thought you were supposed to feel them earlier with the 2nd pg?

I heard the heartbeat at my mw appt last week, she had a little trouble finding it and decided the baby was sitting round the back - could this be why I've not felt anything yet?

I'm driving myself nutty worrying about this! Also I'm off on holiday for a week in a few days, if I've not felt anything before, do you think I should go see a mw / doctor before I go?

Wheres your placenta do you know? If its in the front it can cushion the kicks so you will not feel them.

It varies from woman to woman. Some people on here have been saying they can feel flutterings by my stage (13 weeks) - which is very early - whereas I can't. Others are around the 18 to 22 week marks. Please do try not to worry - you heard the heartbeat just last week x

I've also heard that it depends which way the baby is lying, can't remember which way it is that you can't feel anything though. I THINK that if they are facing your back you won't be able to feel movements. Try not to worry :)

I didn't feel anything with my #2 until 20 weeks, I had an anterior placenta so I put it down to that.

jojodancer · 24/03/2011 12:59

I'm guessing the correct answer to "where's your placenta" wouldn't be "somewhere down there"?!

Nobody has ever mentioned my placenta... I feel left out now :(

Oh don't be, I have no idea where mine is either :o apart from 'roughly where it should be'

lovemybabyboy · 24/03/2011 13:35

With my DS my placenta was at the front and i didnt feel any flutters at all till about 19-20 weeks, then felt the first propper kick at about 24 weeks. Good luck, Im sure baby is fine but if it would make you feel better speak to your midwife and maybe ask her to have a listen to the heart beat before you go on holiday. Smile

It should say on your scan paperwork, well it does on mine, nobody told me either I just looked and noticed it written on there.

G1nger · 24/03/2011 13:37

To those who don't know where their placentas are: check your hospital notes from your first scan (the form the sonographer filled in and inserted). It should hopefully say in there.

lovemybabyboy · 24/03/2011 14:06

Yeah nobody told me either I just read it from the scan report in my notes.

apple99 · 24/03/2011 16:11

I am 19.4 weeks with number 2 and as yet have not felt any movements. Don't know where my placenta is, I shall ask at my scan next week.

Try not to worry everyone is different and at least you have heard a heartbeat, I haven't seen a midwife since my booking in at 10 weeks!

jojodancer · 29/03/2011 11:23

Thanks for your replies, everyone, feeling slightly reassured that others aren't feeling anything yet either.

I'm just a little bit neurotic trying not to compare to my first pg when I had strong and fairly regular movements from 18 weeks...

I've checked my notes & info from the scan and there's no mention of my placenta position - guess that's not something they record around here?

apple - have you not had a 16 week midwife appt? I was surprised when at my 16 week appt the midwife said she wouldn't see me again until 28 weeks!
