hello, just a heads up that if at some point you will be using childcare of some sort and if you are entitled to childcare vouchers with your work then do register before 6th april as the the amount allowed is going to be almost halved after that date!!

but can you register before the baby is born? I thought you could claim only after the birth?

sparklytoes · 23/03/2011 19:19

I phoned up to check about this and was told that I couldn't register until the baby was born...

smeraldina · 23/03/2011 19:32

Thank you for a massively useful heads up. Have been meaning to register for months, and could have missed this

natwebb79 · 23/03/2011 20:19

I emailed them and got a definite 'no' for 'can you register before baby is born?'. Blimmin typical :-(

F1rstT1meMummy · 23/03/2011 20:27

Great - so not only have they taken the health in preg grant, the baby element of tax credits - now they make going back to work and paying for childcare difficult! aarrrggghhhh......hormonal rant over! Blush

Beesok · 23/03/2011 21:23

This is sooo annoying! I mean, it really shouldn't be a problem to register if you are pregnant? Typical BS.

sleepwheniam90 · 23/03/2011 21:26

Shit sorry didn't realize you have to wait until baby is born, that is just crap!!

The deduction is only being reduced if you are a higher rate tax payer.

natwebb79 · 24/03/2011 08:09

You do still get some but it's about half of what we used to be entitled to. I'm sick of missing these benefits by a matter of months. I'm still bitter that I went to uni the first year that grants were scrapped! My timing is pants!

natwebb79 · 24/03/2011 08:10

Oh - if you're in the higher tax bracket, that is.

trixie123 · 24/03/2011 09:56

bear in mind the vouchers are only a tax break, they are not exactly a "benefit" so its not the quite the same as some of the other things mentioned and it IS only higher rate earners that will be affected by the change.

G1nger · 24/03/2011 10:04

Anyone who has already got a child can get these now, I'm told. It's those of us who're first timers who're out.
