Saw midwife for a sweep today but during the examination she said I wasn't dilated enough and would have to be induced (I'm 40+6).
Just wondered if anyone had a similar experience but still went into labour naturally. Being induced Tuesday if nothing happens before then but really hoping I don't have to be induced so I can have a water birth.

I didn't think you needed to be dilated at all to have a sweep? I was 40+4 and 1cm dilated, had a sweep done at 1pm and DD2 was born at 11.36pm! I might be wrong, and it was almost 3yrs ago so they might have changed the criteria by now but I would perhaps ask them to check again before Tuesday? And even if not, there's a good chance you could go into labour naturally before then :)

She did mine at 40+8, I was 3cm dilated. i'd had no symptoms of impending labour at all. Appointment 12.30pm, first contraction about 10pm, baby born just after 5am.

With a first baby it might be impossible to do a sweep. But with subsequent babies the cervix never properly closes, so it's easier.
