Swollen Ankles: when do they deflate?

Could be a silly question but how long after giving birth did it take before your ankles went back to the slender things I used to cherish?

Hello Smile Didn't want your post to go unanswered. My ankles deflated as DD popped out! It's just water retention, don't worry yourself

Bless your ten tiny toes, that's exactly what I wanted to hear!

...goes off to cut up another pineapple to get this party started.....

A few days at most, maybe a week for the last of it! It was very amusing watching the scales drop by 1-2lbs a day considering I'd been sat on my backside for most of the time. Best diet plan ever (aside from the initial baby drop of course!!)

Pootletrinket · 23/03/2011 10:35

Mine took a week or just over to really deflate properly.

About the second day. I was so surprised to see my proper feet again, I hadn't realised just how swollen they had looked for so long (summer pregnancy).

Mine took a couple of weeks I think (although I had some health issues straight after giving birth which may have affected this). When I first noticed they were normal again, I spent the whole day admiring them and slipping them in and out of normal-sized shoes. They had been swollen since week 14, including the entire summer, and no raising them above the level of my hips made the slightest bit of difference. I still admire them occasionally now, 16 months on.

With my first,I didnt get swollen feet/ankles untill about 38 weeks, and it was only about 2 days before they went to normal.

With my second, I got massive feet and ankles at about 30 weeks. So big that my shoes didnt fit!!! They were really sore. It took about 2 weeks to go back to normal - even when I sat with my feet in ice!!

Add to that scenario - wearing flip flops, and a horse standing on your foot.
Not only did I have big fat feet - but a black, bruised, cut foot for about 2 months !! And a dodgy limp 'cause it hurt like hell !!
It was summer, and had to walk around with flip flops on - very attractive eh!Hmm

Im praying that I dont get it that bad again with my next. ( and yes, im staying away from animals) Grin

Sorry to burst your bubble and fingers crossed for you but...my feet were a nice size 5 to begin with by the end i couldn't fit in to my mil size 9's. After they took two weeks to go down but 8 months on am now a size 6 with very painful fallen arches :(

Fluteyboots · 23/03/2011 21:54

2 weeks for me. And I also ended up a shoe size bigger then pre-pregnancy. So many shoes I can no longer wear.....

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 23/03/2011 21:55

It's all water and will go quick enough - within a week at most ime

DS1 I had to got to the theatre after having him because I was stilll bleeding heavily. I had a catheter for 8 hours afterwards and it was fab!!

DS2. so theatre so no catheter. Iwas up and down like a yoyo to the loo peeing like there was no tomorrow!!

EsmeWeatherwax · 23/03/2011 21:55

My ankles got hideously swollen just before and the week or so after my cs with dd1, I actually cried every time I looked at them, cos I've always had very slim ankles, and they looked like proper old lady over the shoes things. Was advised to keep them raised as much as possible, and they went really quickly. So put your feet up! Grin

About 2-3 weeks I think. Although like fluteyboots my feet are still one size bigger than pre-pregnancy, good excuse to go shopping! Grin
