I've just come back from the doc's and have been told off!

I took 2 asprins and a co-codamol in the night as the pain in my sinus' was so bad i was in tears. That was totaly the wrong thing to do (i know now) and it didn't work anyway! That's the second nights sleep i've lost Sad steaming and flushing just seem to escallate the pain for me.

Anyway - he's prescribed the only antibiotic i'm allowed (amoxicillin) and told me PARACETAMOL AND NOTHING ELSE!!

I'm tired and fed up and just wondered if anyone has had good results with this antibi on sinus infection ...... sigh

Yup, I had sinusitis in pregnancy before and it is god awful, the antibiotics will work but they will take time and the paracetamol will help but probably won't get rid of the pain altogether, I know I suffered for a couple of days before it started to get better so I really feel for you, maybe try a warm compress on your face to ease the sinus pain there?

Yes, I had this before pregnancy and it is goddamn awful, it was so near the roof of my mouth I thought it was a tooth abcess and went to the dentist first. But they couldnt find anything so doc put me on antibiotics and literally after one day the pain started to ease. For what it's worth, paracetemol has a cumulative effect so keep taking them when you can, try not to miss a dose and in a couple of days you should feel better.

Thank you ladies xx

i didn't know that about paracetamol. I've spent the day not taking them and trying to be brave - but i wont bother any more, i'm gonna have some right now! Smile

I had this a few weeks ago, currently 31 weeks pg and it was hell so you have my every sympathy. The headache woke me one morning at 2.30am and it was so severe I started panicking about pre-eclampsia and got up to check if anything was swollen! I was also bleeding out of my right nostril whenever I blew my nose which was delightful. As it was Saturday (typical) I didn't get an appointment till teatime on the Monday - and then got a row about not calling NHS 24.

But the amoxicillin was working within 48 hours, although it took 5 days before my headaches completely went so ended up being off work for the whole week. The paracetamol was a bit hit and miss but i think that was because the pressure was clearly coming and going, but it did take the edge off at least.

I have nothing helpful to add, just getting over this myself at the moment, except to add my sympathy. I really don't think they appreciate just how painful it is, I hope you feel better soon

I couldn't ignore this as sinus infections have made me so ill over the years.
Just some ideas that might help, and lots of good wishes and healing vibes x

massage

neti pot

Awfull, Ive just recoverd from this.
Have had it occasionally for years now, but usually take something for it.
people who have never had it dont understand how painfull it is.
My fella just rolled his eyes, thinking I had a cold Angry
Its the constant pain in your teeth, face, cheekbones that makes it worse.

It lasted about 2 weeks, and then I caught a flippin cold straight after.
So have had a sore throat, and catarrh for about a month now!!

Roll on the summer eh!! Wink

Yes! Breathing in any kind of chilly air sets the pain off like crazy. So being out today in the sun was SOOO lovely. Hot shower on the face is a relief too.

You're right about it being hard to get across how bloody painful it is! I always say its like having someone drilling up my nose while electricuting (spelling?) all my teeth. It just reduces me to tears after a while.

Thank you for your sympathy - and i return it xxx
