I was wanting to home dye my hair with a product sold at tesco.
Just wondered if it is safe to do so in pregnancy?
I am 30 weeks pregnant.x

I don't know about hair dying, but I do know it's not safe to shout in your thread titles Grin

Hi ChippingIn

Sum04 I've dyed my hair all the way through, 36 weeks now. The only thing I will suggest is that you do a strand and patch test first as you can react differently during pregnancy even if you have always used the same product.

My MW says the chances of anything going wrong are very slim. There are people who have severe reactions to hair dye but if you're using a brand you trusted before there should be no problem. I also know a hairdresser who told me the same thing.

I waited until after my first trimester though - not sure why. Just made me feel safer.

I know they used to advise you not to dye your hair during pregnancy as the chemicals in the dye get into your bloodstream and get to the baby. But it has changed now and aslong you don't react with the dye then it's fine :)

organic and ammonia free (non-permanent) dyes are fine after 1st trimester

POSSIBLY. ASK YOUR MIDWIFE.

I waited until after 12weeks and then got highlights as supposedly they are better as not directly on the scalp and that is the only possible issue as apparently has been proven that it can get into your bloodstream and then babys bloodstream! But I kind of think the amount of women who dye their hair that it would have been reported as a no no if was a huge problem as most people must be totally fine.

PurveyorOfWoo - what's your problem?? If no-one asked anything MN wouldn't exist. Pull your head in.

Hi Lis :)

Was asking myself the same question, decided it was fine and made an appointment for highlights.
Was really concerned that the salon would refuse me on the grounds I was pg and then he turned out the hairdresser herself was very pg!
It's safe, but if you are unsure you can ask your salon.
