Eek! Me and Hubby have just found out were Pregnant!

Stopped taking the pill new years eve and had usually monthly nigtmare, then nothing since... after a few weeks speculating and complaining of sore boobs I did a test Friday morning and really didn't expect it to be positive... putting it all down to my cycle taking a while to get into a rythm again... but it was!

We're both so happy, but really nervous! We're keeping it a secret until the magic 3 months.

I need to ring the doctors tomorrow to make an appointment, but really nervous and don't have a clue what to expect!

The other thing bugging us is having not had a period since first week in Jan, I don't have a clue how far gone I am! Test said +3 weeks, but could be well over a month at least!

Any help on what to expect with doctors etc would be appreciated!

:o

Congrats :D xx

LittleWhiteWolf · 20/03/2011 22:23

Actually your dr may well want to see you. My practise always have a drs appt first, then a mw booking appt. This is my second baby and they advised me to go for the drs appt first. So check with the receptionist when you ring.
Are you taking folic acid? Plenty of places sell itpharmacies and supermarketsand its not expensive. Take it asap as its crucial during the first 3 months so get some and start taking it.

Finally congratulations!

Staceroo · 21/03/2011 18:49

Thanks everyone!

Wow... crazy to think I could be 10 weeks!

I tried to ring for an appointment for tomorrow, but have been told I've got to ring back on the day, so I guess I'll let the receptionist know why I need the appointment and she'll know whats best!

I haven't taken folic acid, I've heard that it's good when you're trying, didn't realise it helped in Pregnancy too. Will have to look into that one.

Had a real grotty day today, had a sicky feeling in my stomach and been dizzy with a headache most of the day :(

Even harder feeling poorly and not being able to tell anyone in case they suspect! Every time I've been sick since we got married the girls at work always say "are you pregnant!?".

Thanks again for the help. I'll let you know how the drs goes!

Congratulations!

If the test says 3+ and was a clearblue then that is three weeks since you ovulated. 3+ means 3 or more weeks. And assuming a cycle of 28 days, you can add at least 2 wks to that so you're at least 5 weeks gone - but probably 10 like Bluetinkabell says, that means you're almost past the worst (with any luck!).

Get onto the docs...!

vmcd28 · 21/03/2011 23:20

Congratulations! Let the roller coaster begin!
I'm jealous, ds1 is 6yo tomorrow and ds2 is 17 weeks. That's us done now, but I can't bear the thought of never having another +ve pregnancy test :)

Lots of luck. X

inspectorwin · 21/03/2011 23:22

Hi everyone - this is my first post and I'm a bit confused by some of the abbreviations you're using,so I apologise if I'm being dim...

We started trying for a baby after I (finally) managed to stop smoking at Christmas and subsequently stopped taking the pill or using any other protection. I had a "natural" period on 7th Feb, which was exactly when I would have had it if I'd still been on the pill. However, it was a weird period, with the first 3 days being light spotting only, and then a fourth day of normal flow. I just put this down to stopping the pill.

I never got my period in March, but again I just assumed this was down to my cycle understandably adjusting itself after 14 years on Femodene! People at work mentioned that I was looking "rounder" than normal (how charming!), but I just thought I had eaten too much over Christmas.

Then last weekend I felt so bad I had to go to bed for two days - not sickness, but really cripplingly bad cramps and indigestion. I thought I was dying! We took two tests on the Tuesday just to rule it out and got a bit of a shock when both were positive! The cramps continued until yesterday (although I found peppermint tea really helped) and now I feel fine! No sickness as yet......

I'm very confused about our possible due date, given the weirdness of my cycle since coming off the pill and the way my shape seems to have changed. I made an appointment to see my GP but couldn't get an appointment for another fortnight, and we just want answers NOW!!!!!

Has anyone else experienced a strange period and then found that they were actually already pregnant before? Or should I just work the dates out as if that was my LMP (think I'm getting the hang of this!) and assume the growing tummy was due to water retention/Mince Pies, giving me a due date of 14th November 2011?

Sorry this is too long and rambling. I'm completely out of my depth with all this. Thanks!

OrangeGloss · 22/03/2011 07:00

Congrats Staceroo I agree you're probably around 10 weeks Grin

Inspectorwin congrats too, I would assume your dr would go by your last monthly period to calculate due date. If you want a broader opinion And more answers could I recommend starting a new thread for your discussion?

Staceroo - congratulations, i agree get to doctors, as you could be 10 weeks! (how exciting wish i could have skipped a few weeks in the beginning as waiting for 12 weeks was an eternity!)

Staceroo · 22/03/2011 08:22

Drs appointment lined up for an hours time! Can't wait to see what they say!

It would be amazing if we were that far through as we're dying to tell our mums!!

Congratulations inspectorwin! Hope you have good news at the docs too!

Will let you know how I get on at Docs! :)

good luck! how exciting for you! let us now how it went...
hopefully after your appointment you can join us on the October bus Wink

FeralGirlCambs · 22/03/2011 09:08

Morning Staceroo and congratulations! And to inspectorwin too! Don't get your hopes up too much re Dr's appointment - I don't think they can tell you much about how far gone you are, beyond juggling dates like you can yourself - so they will prob book you in for a 12 week scan in two weeks on the assumption that it's 10 weeks now since your last period, but because of pill weirdness you might well get there and they'll tell you you're much earlier and you'll have to go back. This could be frustrating but is nothing at all to worry about! All Dr and m/w can do at this stage is, like you, base things on period dates which might well be out in the pill readjustment phase - after I came off the pill, I had a period quickly, then nothing for 6 0r 7 weeks, thought I might be pg and wasn't - obviously you are, but I mean working out as of when might be difficult...

Staceroo · 22/03/2011 18:41

Hi All,

Wen't to the docs today and your right, she didn't do much! But it was exciting all the same, if not just to tell someone/anyone that we're pg!

She suggests I'm probably around six weeks based on my symptons... such as having sore boobs for about 3 and a half weeks.

I've got to wait for my 'pack' (what ever that may contain) to come in the post and apparently someone will ring me in a week or so to organise a scan where they will be able to date me properly.

I was surprised by this because I thought the first scan was always 12 weeks. Has anyone else had a scan earlier? She said it was just to get the dates right as it's important to have the 12 weeks scan at the right time.

Will be exciting though! Hoping we'll be able to hear a heartbeat or at least see a little something! Even though I gather Mini B (what were calling our little 'un untill we know!) is only the size of a grain of rice, if that!

Thanks again for all the advice! Not quite sure I can get the October bus, probably more late Nov, early Dec. I'll wait till I'm sure!

Oh, forgot to say, got my folic acid from the docs too! :) well advised apparently so thanks for that one!

FeralGirlCambs · 22/03/2011 19:02

Hi Staceroo - glad it went well! I expect they are only suggesting an earlier scan date as there's an outside chance you're further along than 6 weeks, as discussed earlier. Certain observations they do at the 12 week scan are only valid from 11-13 weeks (or something like that) so they won't want to miss that window. I guess you might see rather than hear the heartbeat, as the sound is turned off normally, I think. I had my supposed 12 week scan at 9 weeks and it was great to get a sneak preview, but it looked INCREDIBLY much more like a baby at 12 weeks - the amount of growing going on at this stage is phenomenal. Good luck with everything!

glizzle · 22/03/2011 19:12

Hi, congratulations! I had a scan at 6 weeks, saw a little 3mm speck with a tiny beating heart, then 11 weeks when he was a moving little person and 12 weeks when he was a slightly bigger little person to get a date. However big or little the first scan is amazing so enjoy! I'd guess you were further along than 6 weeks too, if day 0 is your last monthly period (LMP) week 4 would be implantation of the embryo so you'd be expecting symptoms from then, so I'd say over 7 weeks. Good luck!

Staceroo · 22/03/2011 21:39

FeralGirl you're right about the growth at this stage my DH (bless him) was looking at the week by week things, saying how Mini B is probably the size of a grain of rice, but in the next few weeks his heart will develop etc etc! So amazing that it's all going on inside me!

Thanks Glizzle glad to hear that there will be something to see even if I am only 6 weeks! I'd like to hope i'm further along than that, only because it would mean I could start telling people sooner! I Live about 250miles away from my mum, but we're so close, and she's had the hardest few years of her life so I know it would make her so happy to know I was pg! So on a major countdown to the magic 12 weeks mark!

Latest pg sympton today btw, dodgy taste in my mouth all day... kind of makes me feel even more sick that I already did! Don't you just love it!

Thanks MyLifeIsChaotic! I have now found the acronyms bit - doh!

I did explain exactly why I needed to see the Dr when I called for the appointment, but this didn't make any difference. :( I guess I will have to just wait and see what they say!

Staceroo - I'm glad to hear that your Drs appointment went well. Look forward to hearing your updates over the next couple of weeks.
