about being pregnant.

Just how absolutely knackered I would feel during the first trimester.

That the contents of my nose (snot) would be all bloody. Blush

That some of my freckles and moles would grow and become darker Confused

How anxiety inducing and worrying this whole business is.

What were your suprises?

Oh the blocked nose! I've had it for months, and now can't get up from bed quickly so I make Darth Vadar-like can't breathe snorty noises for a few minutes until I can heave my bulk up and find a tissue. Then emptying my nose takes forever and the cycle begins again... and if DP isn't awake or around for the full-on horror of whatever's happening with my body (progesterone = farting?) I feel a deep need to describe everything in great detail. He should be prepared for childbirth though now, ha ha.

Also - getting DP to read sections of the pg book about mucous plugs etc. He asked earlier this week how many more pictures of naked ladies he's expected to look at (all massive of nip and distended fanjos.)

acaseofyou That's called a crab ladder. A snail trail is something quite different ;)

Stangirl · 23/03/2011 21:09

That I wold end up sleeping in about a dozen pillows to keep my head end up to prevent acid reflux, my feet up to prevent swelling and my tummy supported on the side. DP will be sleeping on a 6inch ledge at the side of the bed.

pipplin · 24/03/2011 07:02

How annoying I would find DP. He is merely a man I have donated my womb to the human race.
He is currently in my irrational bad books for having the audacity to sleep whilst I am awake and not to wake up to ask if I was ok after coughing and throwing up. Dick!
Love this thread, so very true things.
I agree wholeheartedly with the poster who spoke of boob pain being constant in subsequent pregnancies-ow, ow, ow!

lowra · 24/03/2011 09:00

Very strangely for the last few days I have been waking up with sore and slightly swollen fingers Confused

Some more unexpected stuff....

That nappy manufacturers, supermarkets etc give away so many freebies to get you hooked on their products.

That I'd spend so much time on pg-related websites.

That fetal movements can become annoying, even in a planned pregnancy (rhythmic hiccups, anyone?)

That I'd appreciate the 9m wait as it's a good way to get prepared emotionally for all these changes (I'm already on baby time I reckon between walking at 0.5m/hour and planning trips around toilet availability).

That I'd go off chocolate and sweet things for most of the pg, only to make up for it in the last few months.

That finding decent maternity clothes could be so difficult that I'd daydream about whether I should open a shop.

That some people are so negative about others' pregnancies Sad and seem to enjoy telling nightmare stories about how awful childbirth and life with a newborn will be. And that my partner's mum would be one of them.

That (apart from the odd hormonal day) I find it easier to be assertive and to let people know that they are talking sh*te Smile

From a lads point of view, we can watch the footy on an evening as my wife is in bed! she has now got to the point of timing it so she can reach the watershed like a trooper... then falls asleep!

johnnyd1 · 25/03/2011 12:07

...and as for the size of her spectacular boobies!!!!!!! :-)

Pamsie · 25/03/2011 13:58

Yes to almost all of the symptoms described. I wish someone would have told me about the acute sense of smell though. I can't even go for a wee without gagging. I can't stand my own smell and I shower at least twice a day!

Oh and that I would completely go off some of my favourite foods and the few ones that I can still eat, somehow taste strange and/or disgusting.

Pamsie · 25/03/2011 14:00

I also forgot about the weird habit of checking toilet tissue closely after a wee. I guess this is from a habit formed in the 1st trimester whilst constantly worrying about bleeding. Hmm

G1nger · 25/03/2011 17:27

I've been having periods for donkey's years, so it's entirely second nature to me that I should check to see when I come on. And to think I won't for months yet! But yes, there's also a bit of a worry built into it too.

SconesForTea · 25/03/2011 20:56

yy to the restless legs. Horrid. Also to being totally exhausted but not being able to sleep at night. Why........

Msissa · 25/03/2011 21:28

Oh dear, this thread is making me snigger...I particularly enjoyed third trimester humping with DH, when (if we both managed to ignore the fact that I looked like an elephant rolling around on him and the baby didn't kick and scare the bejesus out of us) my enormous brown nips would squirt milk out to show him that he was doing it right. Really not ok.

kiwijesta · 26/03/2011 09:52

Mine was being ravenous and then only having enough room for half a meal and then getting wicked indegestion afterwards, a vicious cycle!

LionRock · 26/03/2011 14:51

Here's a thought. My belly has swollen massively and the skin coped fine. But now that my ankles and feet have a tiny bit of swelling I can't flex my feet without feeling like the skin's about to split. Lovely.

Scruffyhound · 27/03/2011 10:26

Yep peeing when you sneeze or laugh or stand up from sitting down (later on) having to wear towels all the time just incase....

Being so tired and sick in the first trimester

Now at 38 +3 weeks Im fed up of counting and people saying "you not had it yet?" Well think its a bit obvious seen as my tummy is still sticking out and im walking like I have s**t my self.....

Forgot how painful it is to walk around at this stage (pubic bones, back) and the fact other people dont really understand you back will break in two if you just dont sit down after two hours on your feet........

The fact that when you have other children to look after and take to school or entertain alll day as well as being pregnant seems like hard work near the end......

That my 2nd pregnancy would be so much different than my 1st.

The fact that the dog does not care if you think your going into labour so long as she has her wee/sniff outside and has her tea/breakfast on time!! Grin
