Early scans and blood tests

Went for seven week reassurance scan. Full bladder, fit to burst, yet sonographer couldn't see anything. Very worried now. They did blood test, Hcg level result:4397. Is that good or bad for dates? They will do another blood test tomorrow to see if Hcg is increasing. They wouldn't offer me any advice, saying we had to wait until Sunday's blood test results. I'm also booked in for another scan next Friday. Please share any advice regarding Hcg results. Very very worried. Anyone experienced nothing in early scan too? I was offered an internal scan, but I refused. Wasn't comforatable with the idea. TIA x

Thank you Jamama. I really dont have anyone in RL I could confide in this early. Family very worried at mo, as dad is in a high dependency unit with a chest infection. Everyone understandably worried. I've been on the phone to them, as they're so far away from us. However, my pain is really just that- something I can't really burden anyone else with. Don't want to worry Dh while he has this really important business trip to oversee. But you guys have really restored my faith in human nature. It means so much more than you guys will ever know. x

Not easy coping with all this on your own! I have my fingers crossed for you..... xx

Diamondsamdrubies · 24/03/2011 21:07

Thankyou iwilldothis... the cramping is worrying me more than anything. It's more in my bottom?! Some very sharp fanjo twinges on occasion too-apologies for TMI x

Diamonds - still thinking of you - must be awful to have the extra delay.
Take care of yourself.

Diamondsamdrubies · 24/03/2011 23:23

Thanks pip. Keep those fingers crossed Hunni x

These things always seem to happen at the worst times, don't they. Is your DH back tonight?

Hope you're a bit more comfortable today. I always felt it was so unfair - I was almost totally convinced I was having a MC, but there was always that little sliver of hope that made me want to abide by all the normal pregnancy guidelines. Which meant that anything that felt like it might have helped (drugs that worked or a stiff drink) were out of bounds. At least paracetamol is cheap...

Hope your dad's doing OK and your DH will be home later.

Diamondsamdrubies · 25/03/2011 11:16

Hi Tangle! Feel less crampy today thanks. Brown discharge increased today, i.e. Dripped onto pad, rather than just a wipe. Don't know whether it's good or bad. Thinner in texture today too. Oh well, resigned myself to: what will be, will be. Dh back tomorrow evening. His brother and his wife and kids are out there, so he will pay them a visit before he returns home. Dad is stable at the moment. The waiting is unbearable. You're right about not taking anything stronger than paracetamol. I've not even taken that. I know it's safe, but the cramps weren't unbearable enough for me to resort to the last resort IYKNWIM. Just out of interest though: what does discharge look like if it is a miscarriage? I know it's different strokes for different folks- just clutching at straws. The limbo like feeling is terrible. x

Quick update: just had lots of fresh red blood on pad like period :-(

OP posts:
Tangle · 25/03/2011 12:33

:(

For me, I think the first MC I had (about 5 weeks) I had a wipe of red blood, then nothing for a few hours/day, then what looked like a slightly heavy period.

The 2nd was broadly similar.

The 3rd I started spotting around 4.5 weeks. To start with it was just when I wiped and brown, then enough to go onto a pad and turning redder. Eventually (about 6.5 weeks it turned into a full on blood bath - like a VERY heavy period with a couple of big clots.

But then my MW had so much bleeding during her 2nd pregnancy that she was convinced it was her period, and was then VERY surprised to find out she was due a month before she thought she was. Her advice was that until you get a -ve test you just can't say for sure Confused (although if they take more bloods and your HcG levels are falling that's a pretty good clue :()

How do you feel in yourself? I was told that if I was soaking a pad every hour for 4 hours then it would be a good idea to get checked out - but given the advice they gave you before it might be an idea to give them a call now and just check they don't want to you to go in just for a quick check. (TBH I probably wouldn't bother with your GP - they just don't have the equipment to do a scan, or the lab to do a blood test)

So sorry you've got to deal with this by yourself for now. (Although if it were me I think I'd be asking DH to come home tonight and hold my hand/pass me tissues, assuming he could get tickets.)

Be kind to yourself xx

Diamondsamdrubies · 25/03/2011 13:38

Thanks for your continued support Tangle. I feel fine in myself physically: no pains or cramps now, just heavy feeling down below. Pain in bottom?! Emotionally- I've surprised myself: and feel quite calm: what will be will be! I don't want to break news to Dh for that very same reason: as there's nothing practically that can save this pregnancy :-(. EPU response- wait and see- as it's not preventable if it's gonna happen. As I'm not in any pain they're not too concerned. I'm happy to wait as well to be honest. Thank you for sharing your experiences with me. It does just go to show that every pregnancy is so different. Oh well...

I am sorry you are going through this on your own. I have had lots of msc. Most started with the brownish discharge you described, then cramps then heavier bleeding. I know this is probably not what you want to hear but I think its more than likely you have had a mscSad as you hcg doesnt seem to have risen enough to suggest viable pregnancy. Please look after yourself and go straight to hosital if you have v heavy bleeding/dizziness etc.

Diamondsamdrubies · 25/03/2011 14:06

Thanks pink. I have resigned myself to the fact that I am miscarrying :-( sorry to hear of your miscarriages.

So sorry to hear of your situation Diamonds.
What's the next step for you? Is it just watch and wait?

Diamondsamdrubies · 25/03/2011 14:25

Thankyou Rennaissance. Scan booked for Tuesday. That's when we find out where we are. Not looking good at all though. :-(

OP posts:
Renaissance227 · 25/03/2011 14:27

Well I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. Will be thinking of you on Tuesday. You never know, it could be good news. Don't forget to keep us up to date. xxx

Diamondsamdrubies · 25/03/2011 15:04

Thanks rennaisance! I need all the help I can get! As I am literally coping on my own right now, this support means so much more. They do say red means the end... Mine couldn't be any more redder...

OP posts:
davidtennantsmistress · 25/03/2011 18:27

not always, I have a friend who bled heavily red the whole time. good luck, I think whilst there's no clots then there's hope at least?

Diamondsamdrubies · 26/03/2011 09:33

Davidsmistress: I went to a and e last night with period like red bleeding: they sent me home. Told me go back for scan on Tuesday. Still period like bleeding from this morning. Non pain or clots yet... Surely it's over for us now? Trying to grasp at straws, when deep down I "know" that I'm probably miscarrying.

OP posts:
MummyAbroad · 26/03/2011 15:27

Thinking of you Diamonds this is such a horrible thing to go through.

Diamondsamdrubies · 26/03/2011 15:32

Thank you so much Mummyabroad. As I have been on my own for the last few days - with no one in RL to lean on, MN has been a true saviour for me emotionally. As the bleeding is continuous, I am just expecting the clots to make their appearance. Anyone know if it is possibly to miscarry at 8 weeks without passing clots or tissue? Would that then require ERPC? Sorry for the gory inquisition.

OP posts:
davidtennantsmistress · 26/03/2011 16:38

tbh I'm discusted with the behaviour/attitude at the EPU, when I had my MC. was at the doctors monday morning, EPU on tuesday and in or a scan. a previous one I went to A&E and got seen/scanned straight away.

(((hugs)))

Diamondsamdrubies · 26/03/2011 17:37

Davidsmistress: I have a fantastic sympathetic gp. She referred me for the scan to EPU. Spoke to them directly. Was confident that someone would scan me there. So you can imagine my shock and disappointment when I arrived and they told ms there was no sonographer in the afternoons on a Friday! And they didn't even want to take bloods for hormone checks which I insisted they do! All in all not a good experience.

MissInvincible · 26/03/2011 18:51

Hi Diamonds, so sorry you are going through this. I have been thinking of you this week. I had to wait days for a scan too a few weeks ago when I was sent to the EPU by a GP, the not knowing is truly awful. Let us know how you get on xx

Diamondsamdrubies · 26/03/2011 20:08

Thankyou Missinvincible- it is pure torture: the not knowing.

Diamonds, I'm so sorry to hear about everything. Will be thinking of you, sorry that you're on your own as well, when does your dh get home? I can't believe that you have to wait for the scan and that A&E weren't more helpful

When I had mc I had a flood of bleeding and lots of clots : (

I'm here if you want to chat. Big hugs to you x
