Persistent period pain plus spotting

Damn. It was all going so well. 11.4 weeks with 1st baby (hopefully).

For the last day or so I have had persistent period-like pain. Not agonising but not often disappearing and not exactly weak either. Plus pink then brown spotting. Went to A&E this morning (sat) and they said there was nothing to be done and to wait for my 12 week scan, scheduled for Monday. There is no ultrasound on weekends.

Getting back pain as well, again like period is due, persistent but nothing agonising. Had one suspected MC fifteen years ago and that was agony, bent over double. This is very different but still worrying.

I know there's nothing to be done unless it gets a lot worse and also until I have my scan on Monday but does anyone have any positive thoughts/experiences for me...?

I've got no real experience but I wanted to send you hugs and good luck for monday. I've not had spotting but when pg with DS, and now (am 7+6) I've had period type pains pretty regularly.

Good luck Smile

Hi - I had really bad cramping with my second one - it felt like bad period pain but all was fine. Your womb is stretching to accommodate baby and that can hurt quite a lot xx

MainlyMaynie · 19/03/2011 14:42

I had lots of period type pain early in pregnancy, still get it occasionally even at nearly 26 weeks. It felt really different to the pain when I had a m/c. I'd try not to worry too much about it. Good luck for Monday.

Is there a walk in centre you can get to if your GP is unavailable today? I only say as I think it's worth checking you don't have a uti that is making your uterus irritable. In my last pregnancy, I had several uti's (one bad enough to hospitalise me!) and always presented as pain under my bump (so, where we would traditionally get period pain if not pregnant) and in my back/kidney area. I never had the frequent urination/burning when peeing so was quite an atypical presentation.

IF you do have a uti, it clearly has the potential to be a problem - it's considered 'urgent' in a pregnant woman just for the reason of causing irritable uterus. So, in conclusion, can you get yourself seen today/have your pee tested?

Hi

I've had early bleeding at 5 - 7 weeks with all 3 of mine.

With this one DC3, I also bled (a lot ... bright red with a huge clot .. sorry TMI!) with crampy achy type feeling that lasted a few days (I wouldn't say it was pain though) at 13+4 weeks.

Had a scan... the bleed was a mystery to the sonographer! Happily, they could see one little bubba happily kicking away, totally oblivious to the stress it had been causing!!!

I know its really difficult, but hang on in there - it may well be absolutely nothing to worry about. As I have found out with my brood, not all bleeding in early pregnancy is bad (even though it's scary!!)

Good luck x

Thanks everyone. It's reassuring in a certain way to hear all your stories. Actually it's reasurring just to have people to 'talk' to. Manda that is an interesting point about UTI. I did wee in a glass to check whether it was cloudy (usually a sure sign way for me to tell when I have a UTI) but like you said it could be different with pg.

There's quite a lot of dark red blood now. Sorry for the TMI. It's gloopy too - a bit stringy. Oh god, I realise this is way TMI but I only know that as I had a gentle dig around to see what was up there! It's not really coming out at the mo except a tiny bit when wiping.

Cramps still there but have taken parecetemol (on advice of the doc I saw at A&E) so are less now, but still feeling them which makes me worry. She said to go back if it got worse, the bleeding side has got worse but as they can't do ultrasound over the weekend not sure what the point is to go back, unless I start doubling over with pain or seriously haemorrhaging. What a nightmare.

Am really grateful for MN to be able to have these conversations!

I hope everything goes ok for you on monday xx

MandaHugNKiss · 21/03/2011 16:27

Thinking of you, freelancegirl so hoping to hear good news.

freelancegirl · 21/03/2011 17:06

Thanks Manda. No good news am afraid. It got worse over the weekend, ended up with contractions every 3 mins for the last 2 days! Scan today revealed it was lost around 7 weeks. V sad. Thanks for your support anyway. Am about to think of lots of reasons to be cheerful and post them on the MC page and at least I can move forward now xx

Sorry to hear that, hope you're doing ok.

MandaHugNKiss · 21/03/2011 17:18

Really sorry to hear it's bad news.

I like to think I'd have your attitude if I were in the same situation - but remember, it is ok to fall apart, too. Not saying it's mandatory, or anything, but... I guess I mean, 'be gentle with yourself'. Yes, there are lots of things to be positive about in your future, undoubtably. But it's ok to be sad right now.

Take care of yourself.

jazz412 · 21/03/2011 17:20

sorry to hear that :(

freelancegirl · 21/03/2011 17:31

Am half falling apart and half ok! It's bound to be a bit weird. Have posted a Reasons to be Cheerful topic on the miscarriage board to see if anyone can help me stay on the bright side. But don't worry, am letting myself have a cry too. Just cried all the way back from the hospital (walked so a proper public situation....). Ah, but what can we do?! Nothing. Pick up and start again....

I'm really sorry to hear the sad news. Take care. x

Hope you get some happier news soon. It's natural to cry and cry and cry but great that you're thinking of happy things too xxx
