hi ladies, Ive posted this in my antenal club too but thought I would ask here too, hope thats ok.

Im 22+1 and went to see the Midwives yesterday as I have experienced a burning feeling and discomfort. After a delightful vaginal swab was taken it turns out I have thrush Sad

The doctor gave me a pessary and vaginal tablet and told me not to use the pessary just insert the tablet with my fingers....but im too scared Blush

I know its silly, I mean I checked with the MW, and the doctor who gave it to me and they all said it was fine but on the instructions it clearly says not to unless under doctors orders, which I guess this is.

I have tried Google which is a stupid idea as you always come across some horror stories so thought I would ask you.

Anyone used it ? Treated it ? HELP...........

Hi Inbetweener

I had thrush which got picked up about 34 weeks. I took the pessary and the cream, although the midwife said to try the cream first but I was worried about baby coming early and catching it (DD born at 36+2). It all cleared very quickly however I did have a lot of irregular contractions/braxton hicks for about 4 days afterwards and was in and out of hospital to check nothing was happening (high risk as my baby is breech).

I hadn't realised but the doctor did say that thrush can cause an irritable uterus so I assumed this is why I had so many braxton hicks afterwards.

Can you get some cream first to try before the tablet? I was told to give it a couple of days to see if it helped so maybe that is worth a try. I was given another pessary in hospital so I'm sure it's all safe.

Another option is live natural yoghurt!!! :)

Yep, have done it (both cream and pessary). It is safe to use during pregnancy. Don't be scared, get it in and your symptoms will ease really quickly. Good luck.

Yeah, I used both during pregnancy too, it's safe and if you just use the cream it might not clear up properly, use it and have it cleared up quickly.

I've used the cream and pessary in pregnancy too. The pessary seems much more effective and (as far as I know) is thought to be safe. I used the cream at the same time and the symptoms cleared up quite quickly. Best of luck, it's not fun having thrush!

Fully agree with the last 3 posts! Have had 3 combined treatments, the last of which is today!!! I use the applicator as I want to guarantee the treatment is as effective as possible, just be gentle when using it!

Interesting about the irritable uterus as I've had it repeatedly up to now (32 weeks) and I have LOADS of BHs...some ever so painful but as its my 4th I blamed that!!

Have also learned that showering twice daily with highly perfumed foam burst gel is NOT the best idea...no matter how nice it smells! Blush
