I had my first scan today and although all looked well with the baby, the sonographer found a cyst on my right ovary measuring 59mm x 41mm x 43mm. I am already due to be consultant led care and have a c-section so she wrote on my notes and said that the Consultant would decide where to go from here. The notes say its a thin walled anechoic cyst whatever that is? I am 13 weeks pregnant and have other medical problems but am now petrified that this is something to fear. Having had two healthy babies but also two mcs this baby is so precious and I am extra scared as I had a smear recalled just before I found out I was pregnant so havent been able to have the retest. Does anyone know anything that may put my mind at ease ?

I've got a cyst, its around 3cm across and i'm 27 weeks pg, it hurts on and off but hasn't affected the baby at all, i shall be having it removed after i've had baby :)
I also had 3 mc before this baby but apparently its not related in any way.

I had a growth scan for DD at 35 weeks, during which the sonographer found a 6cm cyst on my right ovary. It didn't affect DD, or her birth at all. (The fact she was smaller than expected (7lb 3oz compared to DS's 9lb 1oz) wasn't anything to do with the cyst.

I was told that it would probably burst during labour, and I think it has, as the pain I've had in my right side for the last 2 years (since I was pregnant with DS) has gone.

I was told I'd be referred for a scan to see if it had gone after she was born, but she's 3 1/2 weeks now and I've not heard anything yet.

I know it's easier said than done, but try not to worry, and good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

Cant say anything about the cyst but just to say I had a smear that had to be restested. They redid the smear when I was 18 weeks pregnant and there was no harnm to the pregnancy (they probably wouldn't take the chance if you have had miscarriages though I suupose).

I had a miscarriage last summer and during the scans they found cysts on both ovaries.

Fast forward 6 months and I'm pg again. At my 12 wk scan I asked about the cysts and they'd disappeared.

They said it was common for cysts to appear then disappear again during pregnancy, and especially if you've suffered miscarriages.

There was something unexpected found on the scan though - twins!!

Thank you ladies - really helps to know. I phoned the midwife this morning and she said that I am going to be very closely monitored so not to worry.
Jojay thats wonderful news about the twins - funny thing is that I was convinced I would be carrying twins as I am a twin, my grandma also had twins and I was so much bigger with this pregnancy than with the first two children - turns out its probably just the cyst causing the extra bloating!
I have to have the baby by c-section anyway because of other medical reasons and if its still there they may just remove it at the same time Smile
