My friend is pregant too, roughly around the same week as me. She recieved a letter the other day saying she is not immune to Rubella. She is a worrier just like myself and she wanted me to put a comment on here. Do you go to the doctors to get a vaccine or wait till after birth? I know Rubella can cause serious health problems to the baby...

you cant get the vaccination when pregnant, she'll just need to be careful i guess. Thankfully it's not very common because most people are immunised.

They'll give her the vaccine after she has the baby, in the meantime she should avoid contact with anyone she knows who has Rubella (or has been in contact with anyone who does).

She should try not to worry too much though. I had the Rubella vaccine when I was 11. When I changed GPs at 18 they did a routine blood test as part of the change-over and it showed I had no immunity so they vaccinated me again. When I got pregnant the blood tests showed I wasn't immune so after I had DS they vaccinate me yet again. I had a mmc last year and the blood tests from that pregnancy showed no immunity so I had to get it again. I'm pregnant again and when I go for my 16 week check I'm expecting to be told the same thing again. Ive never caught Rubella before, despite coming into contact with it (although I wasn't pregnant at the time) so no immunity doesn't always mean you'll definitely get Rubella.
