Can coughing bring on bleeding?

I'm 9+0 or 9+4 (depending on whose dates you go by, I think I'm 9+4) and got a nasty shock this morning when I went to the loo and had some pinky orange discharge streaked with blood. This followed fairly swiftly after a coughing fit this morning. I've also had three really manic days at work...

Is this something I should be worrying about? I will monitor it, and probably ring the midwives at 9 for reassurance, but it filled me with cold dread.

Hoping like hell its just my body telling me to slow down. My ms seems to have eased this week, I think largely due to more sleep but my boobs still hurt a lot.

Can anyone advise please?

Spotting is common is pregnancy. I had something very similar to what you've described at nine weeks (pinky brown gloop). The placenta is starting to get going at that point, baby is burrowing itself in, and the mucus plug is thickening up - all of this can cause some mild spotting.

Even though it's common you should still get checked out just to be safe and they might be able to get you in for an early scan to take a look at what's going on.

Try not to worry, if it's a small amount and it's stopped then everything may still be fine. I've had a mc and a mmc in the past so when I had this bleeding I panicked. The midwife got me in for a scan the next day and everything was fine, I'm now 14+4 and so far so good.

Hope everything is okay.

I wouldn't worry, I always spot after sex, I know its perfectly normal so I don't worry.

Thanks for the reassurance cbear6 just feeling a bit paranoid at the moment. I'd got to this point without any bleeding at all, so hoped I'd got away with it! I've left a message with the MW office, so hopefully someone will get back to me soon.

apples I see where you're coming from, but I haven't dtd since conception as I've felt too sick!

katiepie2 am in a similar situation, 10 weeks today, some bleeding last night and this morning along with a nasty cough for the past few days. hoping it's to do with that and not something more serious.

just rang the midwife and she told me to go to A&E. not very helpful.

i have hyperemisis

some extream vomiting (when i feel every single muscle in my body violently contrast while i am sick) has made me bleed bright red blood, so i imagine coughing could to.

mine was just a little and stopped straight away and dr / midwife werent worried

Well MW referred me to the EPU and I have a scan booked in for tomorrow afternoon. As it was spotting rather than bleeding the EPU nurse didn't sound too worried, but glad they are taking it seriously.

Hope things well with you monkeybubbles, did you go to A&E? Maybe try ringing the EPU xx

Hope the HE goes for you soon nannyl xx

katiepie2 thank you, decided to see the GP first, and she has referred me to EPU, so i'm just waiting by the phone for them to ring with a scan appointment time. till then, bed rest! hope your scan goes well tomorrow xx

Keeping fingers crossed for you monkeybubbles

I had my scan this afternoon and have a very wriggly baby in there! Dated me to 9+5 which is where I thought I was. Very surreal experience seeing inside my tum, but well worth feeling sick with nerves all afternoon Grin
