28 weeks shows baby with small stomach and low amniotic fluid

I have just come back from a 28 week growth scan and it showed the baby had a small stomach circumference but everything else was measured fine but low amniotic fluid,

I now have to go back for a NCT ( I think they are called) twice a week for two weeks and another scan at 30 weeks.
I am quite nervous, has anyone else had this with their baby?

Hi HarleyQuinn

I had growth scans at 31 and 33 weeks which showed no growth on the stomach circumference (although fluid levels were fine). I had to go in twice a week for CTG and doppler scans to check the baby heartbeart, blood flow and fluid levels.

Everything was absolutely fine and the next growth scan (and subsequent) has shown good growth so a worry over nothing. I was scared stiff at the time, so glad they were keeping a careful eye on me. However since having more growth scans I am very dubious about how reliable they are - depends on how thorough/experienced the sonographer/midwife is, the position of the baby etc etc.

I would say try not to worry, however make sure you rest as much as possible and try to eat well little and often. It seemed to work for me and am now at 37weeks!

Keep positive and good luck.

No problem - I hope everything works out for you.

Just make sure you look after yourself and I would recommend drinking loads to help with the fluid levels.

Hope the growth scan in 2 weeks is positive... also remember that baby's have growth spurts in the womb - I'm sure that's what happened to mine.

Good luck

Hi HarleyQuinn,

Just to add, I had very low af and a number of scans which showed various estimated weights. The doctor told me that sometimes when they measure in these cases it can be less accurate because the babies body may be a little compressed due to the lack of fliud. Does that make sense?

As it turns out mine was little (4lb) but then he was 6 weeks early!

Try not to worry, there is plenty of time for your baby to grow yet Smile

Southsearocks Yes that makes sense Smile

Well the CTG when really well, the midwife was very pleased with the baby's heartrate and movements. She did umm and ahh at first over wether she would be able to find a trace at 28 weeks, but all went very well Smile

two more CTG's next week to go, I feel alot more happier.

An update, all my CTG's when very well.

I had my 30 week scan today, baby is still small, but is doing fine. The fluid is still reduced and baby has now turned into the breech position, I have another scan in two weeks time.
I am very happy baby is growning fine, just hopeing that he doesnt stay in breech for too long Wink
