Sacral dimple - folic acid

Wasn't quite sure where to post this but hopefully someone here might know the answer.

DD is 21 mo and was born with a sacral dimple she had a scan at 16 weeks which confirmed it was closed so docs said she'll be unaffected by it. So far this seems to be the case, she walked quite early and runs around all day long. I took folic acid every day for 6 months prior to conception & during pregnancy.

We're now thinking about TTC baby number 2 but i wondered if I should be taking a double dose of folic acid or if it wouldn't make any difference?

GP was suitably vague but said they didn't 'think' it would matter.

Anyone any ideas?

TIA

My DS now 8 was born with a sacral dimple. It was commented on but never scanned. I too took folic acid pre conception. My second DS has no dimple. To be honest, from the day he was born I've never given it a second thought. I believe it occurs in around 10-15% births. Sorry no advice to give, will be watching this post with interest though......

I am fairly certain all three of mine have one of these (minor and obviously closed), as do I.

I was always led to believe it's a genetic thing. My dad has one, I do and my son has one too - I imagine new baby will as well. Not been picked up on any scans, so hope will be minor.
Never caused me any problems and my son's was only remarked upon in passing.

Thanks I've posted twice & didn't realise oops! There's some good info on the other thread too. DD's wasn't picked up on any scans pre birth but was picked up when she was born. It's tiny and is an actual pin hole rather than a dimple thus the reason it was scanned after she was born as the paeds were worried it may not have been closed. The docs made a bit of a hoo hah about it when she was born so we had 4 months of real worry prior to her scan. Once scanned the consultant said there were no worries what so ever.

Think I'll go back to a different gp and ask again I don't want to take extra unnecessarily but on the other hand, if there's any risk I'd like to do what I can to minimise it.
