New mattress for moses basket

A friend has kindly given me a moses basket. The mattress that comes with it is one of those plastic-coated, wipe-clean ones. She told me there was no need to buy a new mattress as it was plastic coated, but I thought you were supposed to get new ones. Don't want to do anything wrong. What do you think? And do mattresses come in standard sizes?

mattresses are pretty cheap so you could just get a new one anyway.

The reason for a new mattress is that baby sick and stuff can get into the mattress, and you cant see it, and that old mankyness can affect new baby...

so its true that that risk wont apply as no old baby sick could have ever got in there

BUT i though mattresses need to be breathable? especially for a newborn, so for that reason id be warey about using a mattress covered in plastic stuff.

I got a reasonable priced mesh coated one from babies r us.

Oh and far as I am aware they are a standard size.

Think you can get different sized ones. Kiddecare website has a couple. I go my old Moses basket out the loft and just checked the size. Argos do exactly the right size and its less Than a tenner, breathable and removable washable cover too.
