Induction

Hi all - i'm in for an induction tonight. On friday i was 1cm dialated. Does this mean they will try and break my waters first to set off contractions or will i have to have a pessary?

if you are already dialating I would assume they would break waters and maybe start the syntocin.

I'm not sure they can if you are still only 1 cm - I was 3cm with dd on my induction but they still gave me a prostin pessary ('to get me going'). Unfortunately having your waters broken doesn't always start labour, I think it's better at speeding it up. Good luck anyway!

i was given pessaries as was not dialated at all. next morning i was 1cm so they broke my waters and gave me the drip.

Maybe it depends on hospital policy - With ds2 I was given 9 pessaries over 2 days! No-one ever mentioned a drip, only as a final threat! I think I was 1-2 cm (I don't think you ever go back to 0 once you've given birth?)

I just wanted to say good luck. I was induced with my second. They didn't bother with the pessaries for me as I was already 2-3 cm dilated after a sweep. They just broke my waters. Unfortunately this didn't work and after putting it off for as long as possible I finally let them put me on the drip. I wish I had let them do it sooner as two hours later it was all over and I had my beautiful dd2 in my arms. It was much better than I was expecting. Here they gave me the impression that the pessaries are only used to enable them to break the waters.. Good Luck.

i agree about the drip..ds turned up 90mins after drip put in and waters broken..fantastic
