Really scared - had cramping in my lower abdomen yesterday morning. NHS direct told me to go to A&E so I did. At first they thought it was gastro enteritus but then 2 mins later they came back thinking it might be suspected ectopic and sent me in an ambulance to another hospital in the city where they do scans so I could be checked out. At the second hospital where they seemed to know much more about what was going on they didn't seem as worried as the first (who I thought might have been covering their backs a bit just in case) but no sonographers work on the weekend so they just took blood and urine and have booked me back in for a scan today at 3:15 pm but I'm scared. My lovely husband is coming with me and has been fab but I think it's freaked us both out quite a lot. I'm also worried that the tummy bug might also have caused some damage - prob just being silly, trying not to think about it. I never go to the docs, let alone the hospital so think, hope I'm just unsettled by it. According to my LMP I will be 11 weeks tomorrow.

ANyone else had experience of this?

Hi Snakeears, I had severe cramping in my abdomen, right from the bottom of my pelvic area all the way up to ribcage. It was horrific pain, so bad my DH called an ambulance. They were concerned I had an ectopic. I had to stay overnight to be scanned the next morning as a had gone in late afternoon and by the time A&E had farted about taking blood it was too late to be scanned.

So next morning I was scanned all was ok I was 7+2 and saw a hb. I had another scan at 9+1 and am going back for my 12 week scan on Thursday - so so nervous.

I hate doctors and hospitals and have only ever been admitted to hospital once so it was very scary for me, but my baby was ok.

They never found a cause for my pain. You often get cramping in early pregnancy due to all the stretching. You did the right thing calling someone and now you get to see your baby. :)

What time is your appointment? A tummy bug will not have caused any damage. I have hyperemesis and on a bad day throw up around 10-15 times a day and my bean is ok so far.

I'll have my fingers crossed for you :)

At 11/12 weeks the uterus fills the pelvic cavity and it can cause a lot of irritation and cramping. The uterus then 'pops' over the pelvis out of the cramped space it is in and continues to grow without the limitations. I remember finding it a very worrying and painful time.

Good luck for today. Please don't worry about a tummy bug causing problems. Lots of women vomit and have diarrhoea/constipation for most of the first trimester and it doesn't cause problems.

Its still early in the pregnancy yet and you can get quite sharp cramps they feel really bad I was told its the embryo imbedding its self? I hope this is the case for you. It happened to me with my first pregnancy. Its killed and I was soo worried. The best way to describe it is like a really bad period pain I was doubled over! But getting checked out is the right thing to do it will put your mind a rest. Good Luck with your appt. Smile

Hi There,

thank you so much for these messages evryone. We had the scan and it's amazing!!

All is well and I'm a bit further along than I expected - 11 weeks and 3 days, not 10 weeks +6. The scan is so clear. Like you said nothing to worry about - thank you all so much for taking the time to reply.
xxx
