Listeria?

Firstly I know I am probably being a bit crackers but wanted some others opinions.

About 6 weeks ago I had a couple of licks of dd's ice cream from an ice cream van. I completely forgot I shouldn't have done so due to listeria risk but didn't think too much of it.

Over the last 3 weeks me and dd (18 months) have both had some kind of nasty cold/tummy bug. She is fully mended now and I am still having some stomach issues.

I am 7 months pregnant (quite irrational with it) and am now panicking that I have picked up listeria and passed it on to the baby.

I have googled the risks and am just making myself worse. I wondered if anyone on mn had any idea as to the actual risks and how ill I could expect to be?

I know it is far more likely that I have a harmless bug but can't seem to stop worrying.

One, if you have listeria I think you would know about it!!!! It's not a little tummy bug that comes and goes every now and again, you would be sick as a dog!
Two, from a couple of licks off an ice cream!!! Are you crazy!!!! I'm really laughing my socks off and think your nuts!! Bless you for worrying, all I did with my first was eat mr wippy!!
Ice cream is cooked before being frozen, so no chance!

Bless you, still laughing! Stop worrying yourself! Relax and have one yourself!! :) :) :)

The things we worry about in pregnancy!
Ps, I'm addicted to smoked salmon and Parma ham!! :(
And lettuce is the biggest carrier of listeria!!!!!!!

Thank you Coopernoodle - I was hoping someone would say that! All the google stuff goes on about mild flu, mild cramps etc.

I know I am bonkers DH is just not brave enough to say it Grin

I wasn't like this with my first...promise!

I had listeria when I was younger, and I got it from ice cream! However, I agree with Copper that if you had it, you would definitely know about it.

I remember being incredibly violently sick, so much so that I pulled all the muscles in my chest/stomach.

I'm sorry that you've been feeling poorly, and hope you feel better soon!

No probes! After reading that though I googled listeria and actually found out more than I knew so I am sorry for laughing at the ice-cream thing, never knew it was possible! And processed meats!but in that case then, you could catch it of just about anything then!! It would just be very unlucky if you did!
Sounds more likely to be a virus but if your worried, get it checked out. I know with children that when they get viruses it can make their tummies hurt due to the linfnodes, but don't think it's the same for us!
Xxx

Ooo yes, if you has listeria you would certainly know. Had it from ice cream in Greece and wow there was no mistake..hospitalised for 24 hours (which was just as much of a health hazard as the ice cream imo!)

Ah thank you everyone, you have well and truely put my mind at rest.

That will teach me to google symptoms Smile

Thanks again x

Can I just add something about ice cream? The listeria comes from ice creams that are repeatedly partially thawed hence my experience in Greece. It is not unreasonable therefore to be wary of ice creams being sold from open freezers in warmer weather. I havent eaten ice cream from the cinema ice cream concession..but that's just me.
