that I only smell when I'm pregnant, have got it all five times. It doesn't matter if I've cleaned the kitchen or not but it's a weird foody smell and it makes me feel sick. Never, ever get it when not pregnant. Am I the only one?

No, I've been having the same. It's like a weird stale smell, like old food.

Poor DH has helped me scrub the kitchen top to bottom, I've gone through every cupboard, the fridge and the freezer. I've cleaned the oven, got DH to put super strength bleach down the sink, washed the blinds, dismantled the extractor fan and washed it, scrubbed the utility room (it opens into the kitchen), I've even thrown away my mop and my laundry basket in case it was either of those.

And it still effing smells! DH says it smells fine to him and my mam commented that "it smells lovely in here" but to me it's just foul.

So your not the only one :)

just stay out the kitchen, mine always smells weird even though OH always cleaning it!

Underachieving · 12/03/2011 13:39

You are absolutely not the only one. I thought I was the only one! Mine is like onions or old leaves off the cauliflower or something. The hall also smells of moudiness but OH can't smell it, I ripped the floor up last time looking for it. This time I think I have to accept it's just me. As a precaution I have banned all onions and cabbage from the house and cauliflower my only come in if it is prepared and put in the pan on the spot and the leaves are taken straight to the compost... OTT? Moi?

I don't cook anymore as my kitchen smells yuck and I can't even use my disinfectant as that makes me chokes. It sucks as i miss baking.

For the 1st 18 wkd of this pg I used to start heaving as soon as I went in the kitchen. I threw out loads of dried herbs & spices from the cupboard & that made it smell not as bad but I'm still not keen on the kitchen at 29 wks! It's the fridge I really hate, I can't have any leftover food in there at all now & no matter how much I bleach it I can smell something. Can't understand it at all.

Every time I view this thread title in the topics list I keep singing to myself "there's a rat in my kitchen what am I gonna do?" :)

LOL at CBear6!

I have this too, it's a rotting cabbage kind of smell. It's happened with every pregnancy, even the ones I MC. First time I cleaned the fridge about 8 times and had bowls of bicarbonate of soda everywhere. Now I know, and just don't breathe when I open the fridge.

Pippaandpolly · 13/03/2011 17:16

I have this too - in fact my flat is so small that the entire place reeks to me of rotting food. DH promises me there is nothing slowly rotting behind a kitchen cabinet and that in fact he can't smell anything at all, but my first reaction on walking into the flat is always that it stinks. Yuck!

jasmine51 · 13/03/2011 17:21

Ok - tell your DH about it and ask him to clean everything because it makes you feel so nauseous...then tell him you can smell it in the bathroom too...then the bedrooms....he might twig by that stage...but if not, you've got a nice cleaned house Grin.
By the way, yes I had that too but now the nesting instinct is underway, all I can smell is paint and new wallpaper!

CBear6 · 13/03/2011 21:22

jasmine51, please feel free to come and nest at my house! My nesting instinct forces me to do excessive amounts of laundry, buy unnecessary amounts of pillows, and a new bed "because the old one is just wrong".

chipmonkey · 13/03/2011 22:15

LOL at jasmine!Grin I may try that![aink]

I hated the smell of my house when I was pregnant and I've been paranoid about it being stinky ever since!! Couldn't stand the smell of dh either. We had to top n tail in bed during both my pregnancies!

Semsemthesem · 14/04/2024 21:57

Not alone. 8wks and I can't stand the smell of the living room. I have cleaned and now don't want visitors because I feel they may smell it. DH has cleaned and cleaned and I just gag every time I go there. I must pass through living room to kitchen so it's a huge challenge now.

Also all detergent smell!
