I'm so unwell and worried. I have bad asthma right now, a stinking cold and a chest infection. Breathing is so laboured tonight but I'm worried about the effect of the constant coughing on the baby.

Advice anyone? Thanks.

I was in a similar situation at 38 weeks and my MW thought there was no problem even though I could barely breath Hmm.

By 39 weeks I was still really bad and had to take DD to the GP, he couldn't believe the state I was in and put me on ABs straight away. I got my coughing/breathing under control just in time to give birth, without the ABs I doubt I could have managed it tbh.

There was no suggestion that the coughing would harm baby, I did ask but GP was very worried about my ability to cope with labour.

If you are suffering get to the GP and see what the can do, it made all the difference for me.

Tinky sorry for being thick, what's ABs?!

I really am struggling. Saw GP on Tues and prescribed antibiotics, but didn't want inhalers upped because of the baby. But I'm really struggling tonight, and my ribs and under bump hurt SO much. And feel too ill to cope with labour!

Can't talk as it sets me off. Had slight asthma attack earlier too. My DH is worried about me.

I couldn't sleep at all because the coughing didn't stop long enough to fall asleep (!) but found that if I propped myself up on the sofa I could get a few hours here and there which really helped. I also used a humidifier, not sure it helped but I think it did.

I remember that fortnight well, it sucked. A friend had something similar when she was about 35/36 weeks and she had some painkillers prescribed for the ribs and under bump pain which she said helped, maybe call in the morning and try to see someone again?

I had an extra pillow last night, laced with Tea Tree Oil, and slept relatively ok. Woke up to turn over (as you do when you've got to hoist your bump and pillow-between-legs over with the rest of your body!), had a good cough, ventolin, then back to sleep.

But chest NO better this morning so went back to GP. Plenty of sympathy, said my immune system is obv v suppressed and the sooner the baby is out the better, but there's no more treatment they can give.

So let's hope labour might start soon.....! Thanks for the support! x Oh, might try humidifier tonight....
