Anyone used a girdle (Belly Bandit or similar) after pregnancy?

My DS is now 7 weeks old and to be honest I wasn't prepared for how grotesque my belly would look after pregnancy (he was BIG, I was small before - my stretchmarks are a work of art ;)).

I ordered this from Amazon, it's basically a cheaper version of the Belly Bandit, it arrived today and I've got it on now (makes me look very flat!). Has anyone had any joy with such things? Particularly if they started using them a while after delivery? I know it won't be a miracle cure, I've also started abdominal exercises and I'm breastfeeding too but hopefully it will help...

Hi,

I had a vast midline split of the abdominal muscles with both my previous pregnancies. On the second I was referred to a physio who gave me tubigrip (sp?). It is really just a stretchy elastic bandage tube to give belly support, -just a less posh version of what you probably have! Grin

Anyway. They are great. Really.

My belly was a flabby enormous camels hump hanging from the centre of my abdomen. The band gave support where I was lacking it naturally from no muscles there and supposedly helps pull it all back in.

Three months post partum, the midline split was only 2 fingers, I pulled the rest in with excercise, but all that is for nought, I'm sure this third pregnancy will rip it all apart again, good job I still have my tubigrip!

good luck, phew, what an essay to just say they are good

Oh my, Cake, that sounds bad, but I'm glad your tubigrip helped, and this is good news for me and my girdle. Grin All the best with the rest of your pregnancy. :)

That looks great - anyone used one post c-section?

I remember reading that quite a few cultures bind the belly post pregnancy as a matter of tradition, UK used to do the same aparantly with various girdles or corsets, so there must be something to to look into it. I remember feeling that the binding gave in the very least my back muscles suppport when they needed.
