Belly button hernia?

Hi ... Waiting for midwife to call me back but thought you lot are just as knowledgable and probably quicker to respond!!

I'm 28 weeks today and last night I noticed a small lump about the size of the end of my finger protruding from the side of my belly button. It's squishy and doesn't hurt at all, is it a little hernia do you think?

Don't want to google it as I'm one of those gals who convinces herself that I have every ailment on every medical site!!

Hi frida - not sure if this will help or not but my brother has just had a small op to remove an Umbilical Hernia. He also had a 'protrusion' from his belly button. To be honest he left it for ages (probably about a year!) before we finally persuaded him there was an issue and he should see a doc. I've since heard of someone else who had one and it caused them all sorts of problems because they didn't get it looked at, but my bro had his op, recovered quickly, and is now all sorted.

I'd get it checked if I were you.

Thanks, Spoke to Doc in the end and she's given me an appointment in the morning ... feel a bit embarrassed as unless someone has intimate knowledge of my belly button they wouldn't know there was anything there!

I have had one of them since baby number 3 and most of the time its un-noticable, just while I am pregnant it sticks out more and people think its my belly button and it isn't so I keep poking it back in but its about an inch long.

I haven't ever told my doc about it, but midwives have seen it lol. They just said if I have any problems with it to get it looked at, but from what I remember seeing recently, ops for that are going on the list of unnessecary treatments that won't be operated on anymore with the likes of cataract removal, hip knee replacements, tonsil removal etc....
