I'm sure I saw an article a while ago that said they don' work... but I could be wrong.

I didnt think rasberry leaf actually started off labour it just softened the cervix in preparation for a (supposedly) easy labour?

clarebear1 · 09/03/2011 17:11

Oooh ill start that then if its gonna make it easier ;-)

They don't work. You could have another 5 weeks to go yet

Natzer · 09/03/2011 17:14

I heard that nipple tweaking works! x

AmazingBouncingFerret · 09/03/2011 17:18

I swear that running up the two flights of stairs in the maternity hospital at 10 days overdue did it for me. More likely I just went into labour coincidently afterwards!
Also with my first I drank a whole carton of concentrate pineapple juice, a few hours later I was in labour. again could of just been a coincidence because with my second I drank fucking gallons of the stuff and nothing happened!

caramelcoffeelover · 09/03/2011 17:20

I've heard sex definitely helps but only if cervix is ready to get going. It helped me, not that I had bringing on labour in mind when it happened :)

Nothing works. None of it.

No studies ever have found a link. The enzyme in pineapple for example linked to labour. You'd need to ingest 8 whole pineapples (skin, leaves and all) in one sitting (literally in minutes) for it to even start to replicate the natural levels in the body.

Going into labour is a chemical thing between you and the baby. No amount of curry and sex will help. Actually, in all studies there have been no links between sex and labour starting but a very very tiny inconsequential higher incidence of labour starting after the oral ingestion of semen.

And raspberry leaf tea is supposed to strengthen the uterus ready for the 2nd stage, nowt to do with labour induction.

You can't make a baby come early. And you don't want to.

37+5 here - if curry worked, I'd never have got this far! Love a bit of chilli!

As for sex - not unless I get desperate!

Pineapple - I had my suspicions that that would be the case, ShowOfHands.

Raspberry Leaf Tea - I've got some in the cupboard, but haven't started it. However, I've been drinking 'normal' raspberry tea, and having the mother of all braxton hicks since 20 weeks, so my uterus is possibly the fittest part of me!

Nipple tweaking - might do it, it does release various hormones, and after a few minutes I start to get more agreeable to item number 2! Seems theoretically plausible! Also seems like the easiest one to try!

Like Clarebear, I'm ready for this little dude to arrive. Please not another 4 weeks!

Nothing works!! Don't think any of those things are likely to hurt but I tried everything when I was about 37 weeks with DS - spicy curries, long walks, climbing the stairs, pineapple, raspberry leaf tea, you name it... even sex with a massive bump and horrible SPD!!!

But the only thing that got me started was a membrane sweep at my last hospital appt the day before my due date.

I've heard whispered tales of people being able to twist their midwives arms and getting them to give them a membrane sweep at 38 weeks so could be worth asking?

Good luck!!!
