Yup, paracetamol is fine, but nothing else.

FangAche · 21/10/2005 08:58

Oh Hula when I saw you'd started this thread I thought you were pg!!!! Was getting all excited for you.

Unfortunately its not recommended before 12wks..... unless its for a fever (for example) and the risk of the fever is greater than the risk of taking paracetamol.

Hulababy · 21/10/2005 08:59

Thnks

I thought it was ut just couldn't remember.

Oh flamebat.... we have very different answers!

I'll go check NHS website.

munz · 21/10/2005 08:59

yep - I had a migrane at 8 weeks - rang the m/w who said ONLY paracetamol and only 8 in 24 hours - think I took 2 went to sleep and was fine.

flamebat · 21/10/2005 09:01

I was told it was fine... but then my midwife also told me that I could drink in moderation

mummytosteven · 21/10/2005 09:01

I was told paracetamol was fine, but you should try to be sparing with it.

FangAche · 21/10/2005 09:01

Oh I stand corrected! I was told differently when I spoke to my midwife!

From Net Doctor:
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Certain medicines should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. However, other medicines may be safely used in pregnancy or breastfeeding providing the benefits to the mother outweigh the risks to the unborn baby. Always inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, before using any medicine.

There are no known harmful effects when this medicine is used during pregnancy.

Small amounts of this medicine may pass into breast milk, however there are no known harmful effects when it is used by breastfeeding mothers.

I was very bad in early pregnancy in general this time though... until about 8 weeks I went with the theory that "I might not have even tested yet" so I could eat pate!!!

FangAche · 21/10/2005 09:05

lol Flamebat! I found out I was pg by accident with dd 9 days after conception!! That night I went out and had a few drinks on the same basis that NOONE finds out they are pg that early!

Hulababy · 21/10/2005 09:09

No fangache. I did post on another thread lat night in passing, but after this month we hae decided to call it quits on the TTc front. Given it 15 months and I want off.

Aw Hula.... laying of the pressure for a while might be just what the Doctor ordered. Good luck.

flamebat · 21/10/2005 09:15

I found out when I was 3 1/2 weeks, so went with the same theory... told myself that I had erratic periods at the best of times, so it should have been at least 8 weeks before I tested

Nemo666 · 21/10/2005 09:18

paracetamol is fine maybe just take 1 and see if it helps rather than the 2..at the min I am on 8 a day for painkilling of the spd...grrrrrrrrr

cori · 21/10/2005 09:33

I am 12 weeks pregnant, and have been sick with one bug or another for most of it. My Gp, hospital consultant, pharmacist basically everyone you can think of in the know has told me it is safe to take paracetamol.

carlypen · 23/10/2005 14:22

paracetamol is safe throughout pregnancy and now nurofen too in the first 2 trimesters so lots of options. especially for flu or fever is important to keep temperature down and not struggle on thinkng you can't take any drugs - much better for baby and for you.
