Can I ask MW for a sweep? Fed up!

I'm 38 weeks preg with my 4th and SO uncomfortable, partly thanks to 15 or so weeks of strong Braxton Hicks. Everything is such an effort.

I'm seeing the midwife on thursday (although my little boy was 3 wks early - last preg - so I'm holding out this one will come soon!). If I ask her for a sweep is she likely to refuse unless there's a medical reason to get me started?

Would just be nice to have an idea so I'm not holding out for a 'yes, I'll do it' on Thursday!

perma I know it's horrible at the end. My last baby came at 37 wks and I'm almost 38 now so at same frustrated stage as you, but if your body is not ready to labour, a sweep won't make it sadly, if only it were that easy.

Not sure how your trust works either but mw should be reluctant to do a sweep before 40 wks anyway unless medical reason to get labour a little nudge (if they can)

good luck lo comes on his/her own before then, Thursday is still 4 days away.

You can ask, but I'd expect her to say "no" as it is still over a week before your EDD :(.

It might be worth saying you're feeling so worn out and fed up you'd like to know if your cervix is showing any sign of doing anything at all - try and get her to have a feel and then, if she seems positive, ask her if she can do a sweep while she's there...

Fingers crossed you have a smooth and straightforward labour to make up for all the BH's :)
