Have any of you conceived after having SWI'd 4 days before ovulation???

...Just trying to cling on to some hope that OH being away during OV this month doesn't mean there's no hope for us this cycle...

i know of someone who has 5 days before.

For me no idea which sperm it was as was trying pretty hard from 5 days before, until a day after

Reassuring re: your friend though - I'll keep some hope at the back of my mind in that case!

Assuming that SWI means sex and, yes, my husband and I had sex on the sunday morning before he left to go overseas. I ovulated on the following thursday and got pregnant. If this happens, you are more likely to have a girl (we did) as female sperm are slow but determined and can last up to about 5 days I think. Male sperm are faster but burn out after a day or so...

I did with DD. Same as Annabel - we dtd before my OH went overseas. My temp didn't go up until 5 days later, so I didn't ovulate until 4 days after. I was absolutely gutted as I thought we didn't have a chance but then my period never arrived. I'd heard the same about male and female sperm - and we did have a girl.

The male / female sperm theory has been disproven. It was a nice idea though!

But yes in theory sperm can live long enough for you to get prg this month. You seem pretty confident of your ovulation date being four days after your OH goes away.

We DTD on a Monday. I got positive OPK on the Sunday. DS2, the result, is 12 months old tomorrow.

Pretty sure DH only has blue sperm

Annabel - sorry, yes, SWI means "shag with intent"!

LionRock - to be honest I'm not totally sure that OV is on Weds but it tends to be on about day 20 of my 32-35 day cycle.

Probably TMI, but I always have about 4, sometimes 5 days of EWCM. Sure that makes a difference.

Imps7 - thanks for the explanation I was thinking through the SWI options but didn#'t get it!

Like sheep says, on average sperm lives longer in favourable conditions. Tbh some sperm seem to be able to camp out in the most inhospitable conditions though. The answer is still a definite "could be" for you. That's why the rhythm method of contraception isn't 100% guaranteed!

Well not 100percent but with dd1 and 2 i ovulated on day 15 and DTD on the same say(well thats when ov test came up)

With ds (dc3) we had sex once that month (werent palnned on concieving for a few months) the day my period finished so about day 6 and was very when i found out i was pregnant

I think DS was conceived 4-5 dayes beforehand...

well part of me would like think that my cycle had completely changed after bfing dd2 for 8mth and she was 13mth when i concieved so maybe i was ovulating really early.

I find it a bit freaky thinking of is all living there all that time Although if they were thats a goos sign for you But it def rules out the timimg theory for concieving a girl!
