Have I hurt my baby?

This is my first pregnancy and we've only been trying for a few months and although i've been taken folic acid,as i wasn't expecting it to happen any time soon, i admit i had been having the odd drinks night out and took ibruprofen and day/night nurse for a bad cold i had last week.
Then I did a pregnancy test on Friday, then another, and they were both positive. I am now living well and putting nothing but goodness into my body but am worried i may have already done damage. My last period was at the end of jan, so i could already be several weeks.
Any thoughts welcome x

I took lots of things and drank lots of thongs I shouldn't have before I knew I was pg. There really is mot point in worrying the chances are there is no harm done.

Ps congrats

Nope, you won't have done any harm to your baby. Put it out of your mind and enjoy your pregnancy!

I would estimate 90% of newly pregnant women have done those things and then worry - you can only be about 5 weeks gone max. Which means you only conceived about 2-3 weeks ago, and for the first two weeks you have no placenta and the embryo is taking nothing from you! And ibuprofen is only really contra-indicated in the last trimester IIRC.

Stop worrying! Nothing to worry about.

I got pregnant with DS when I was on holiday in Tunisia. I was eating all of the wrong foods, drinking every night, and I got a bad cold for which the Tunisian pharmacist gave me a bottle of liquid codeine that I was drinking straight from the bottle like it was pop, I was also smoking. Basically doing everything I shouldn't have been. I had been taking folic acid because we weren't using protection and I was trying to to get pregnant but I kept forgetting and hadn't taken it for three or four weeks.

I was four weeks pregnant when I did a test, I'd missed my period but thought nothing of it because I sometimes missed them. As soon as I found out I started doing the things I was supposed to.

DS was fine, born at 40 weeks and is now a healthy toddler. It's highly unlikely you've done any sort of damage, everything is tiny right now and barely formed yet so don't worry about it.

You've done the most important thing - folic acid. There is no placenta until a few weeks in and it doesn't sound to me like you've been living like Amy Winehouse Grin

Almost all women have some sort of verboten substance story / wild night out story in the days before they knew they were pregnant.

I didn't know I was pg until around 8 wks (unplanned) - put my missed period down to a change in contraception after a test came back negative. During these 8 wks I drank, didn't take folic acid, took v.strong antibiotics for an awful kidney infection, probably ate things I shouldn't have .etc. Now 24 wks pg & doing fabulously!

Please don't stress about this OP, I'm sure your LO will be absolutely fine. Grin

I was almost seven weeks pregnant when I found out and had been using ibuprofen, cough mixture and strong medication(antidepressants) till that point. I really don't think you have hurt your baby to be honest.

IWillNotNeverEatATomato · 07/03/2011 20:51

I got very drunk on lots of vodka, before I knew I was preggers with DS1,
in fact the one thing that made me start to think I might need to do a pregnancy test was that Gin didn't taste right Blush

also this was a very unplanned pregnancy for which I had taken the morning after pill - which obviously didn't work

and only a few weeks in to the pregnancy the muscles I was hospitalised with a bad back and was on lots of co-codamol

but DS1 was a very strong healthy baby, who has turned into a strong healthy child, so don't worry
